The Baume & Mercier Clifton just got a whole lot cooler with the introduction of two new models with Ice Blue guilloché dials!

Baume & Mercier has given its Clifton collection a fresh look for 2026, introducing two new limited editions that combine the collection’s vintage-inspired design with a new ice-blue guilloché dial. The Clifton Ice Blue Editions come in two very different forms, with a 39mm automatic date model sitting alongside a more complicated 40mm perpetual calendar, both powered by versions of the brand’s Baumatic manufacture movement.

The Clifton has always been one of those watches that sits comfortably between traditional and contemporary design, and these new models continue that approach without making any major changes. The biggest difference is the dial, with Baume & Mercier introducing an ice-blue guilloché finish that gives the watches a completely different character from the more restrained colours we have seen across the collection.

We had the pleasure of previewing them at Watches & Wonders this year, and in our opinion, Baume & Mercier has done a fantastic job with these. Not only do the stamped guilloché dials look spectacular, but they also build on the redesigned Clifton collection introduced in 2025, which brought more compact proportions and a stronger connection to the brand’s 1950s-inspired designs.

The Clifton Ice Blue

The simpler of the two watches is the Clifton Baumatic 39mm, reference M0A10870. It uses the familiar round stainless-steel Clifton case, measuring 39mm across and 11.22mm thick, with a combination of polished and satin-finished surfaces. The case is topped by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, while the sapphire caseback gives you a view of the Baumatic movement inside.

Baume & Mercier’s new ice blue Clifton is an elegant choice for a sports watch!

While on the surface, this is the Clifton we’ve come to know, the dial is really where this watch comes alive. The ice-blue surface carries a fine guilloché pattern that changes as the light moves across it. A black crosshair runs through the centre of the dial, while the minute track has a snailed finish and sits around the outside. The elongated trapezoid-shaped indexes are rhodium-plated and joined by an Arabic numeral at 12 o’clock, with the faceted alpha-style hands carrying the same rhodium finish.

The stamped Guilloché dial makes this come to life

Baume & Mercier has also kept the date display relatively discreet, both colour-matching it to the dial as well as placing it at 6 o’clock so it blends in with the dial and doesn’t detract from the overall look. The watch is fitted to an integrated three-row stainless-steel bracelet with polished and satin-finished surfaces, and the bracelet can be changed without tools thanks to the interchangeable springbar system.

The Baume & Mercier Baumatic movement is a solid movement with 5 days of power, so you can take off the watch for a few days and put it back on without missing a beat.

Inside is the Baumatic calibre BM13-1975 A, a self-winding manufacture movement that has become an important part of the Clifton collection. It operates at 4Hz and provides a five-day, or 120-hour, power reserve, while the movement itself receives circular-grained and snailed decoration, along with an open-worked oscillating weight decorated with Côtes de Genève. Baume & Mercier has made a good-looking movement here, which just amplifies the value proposition of the watch.

Then There Is the Perpetual Calendar

I’ll start by saying this: This is one of the nicest Perpetual Calendars I’ve seen for a while now, and even more so when you consider that Baume & Mercier is positioning this watch at A$32,500. Again, seeing this in person back in April, it was a standout piece from the brand.

The Baume & mercier Clifton Perpetual Calendar measures 40mm in diameter and 12.9mm thick, making it slightly larger than the date model to accommodate the additional complication.

It is a good-looking Perpetual Calendar for sure!

It gets the same ice-blue guilloché treatment, although the dial layout is obviously busier thanks to the perpetual calendar. There are snailed counters and a snailed minute track, with rhodium-plated trapezoid indexes and Arabic numerals at 2, 4, 8 and 10 o’clock. The calendar displays the day, date, month and leap year, while a blue moon-phase disc with a polished rhodium moon sits down at 6 o’clock.

The dial on this is sensational

The perpetual calendar is powered by the Calibre BM13-1975 AC2, which takes the Baumatic manufacture movement and adds a Dubois-Dépraz module for the calendar functions. Like the standard automatic, it beats at 4Hz and provides 120 hours of power reserve, although the movement is slightly thicker at 5.8mm. It is also decorated with circular-grained bridges, a snailed and sandblasted plate, and a gilded open-worked rotor with Côtes de Genève decoration.

Rather than the steel bracelet used on the 39mm model, the perpetual calendar comes on a blue alligator strap with an all-square scale pattern and tone-on-tone stitching. It also uses Baume & Mercier’s interchangeable springbar system, making it easy to swap out to another type of strap should you wish. Honestly though, why would you need to?

Initial Thoughts

While the new Ice Blue Cliftons take on a slightly different look to what we would normally expect, they still retain the same style cues from the 2025 revamp. The 2025 redesign already gave the collection a more refined case and stronger vintage character, and the ice-blue dial adds another option without taking away what makes the Clifton work in the first place.

While ice blue may seem like a newer, more modern colour, Baume & Mercier points back to the design codes of the 1950s, when ice-blue was very much a colour from that period. What is old is new again, right? It gives the watch a little more personality than a conventional silver or white dial, while the guilloché pattern adds some amazing texture that really brings the dial to life.

And if we look at each watch comparatively, the 39mm automatic is the straightforward everyday option, with the Baumatic movement, date display and integrated steel bracelet making it an easy watch to slip on and off daily. The perpetual calendar is slightly different, particularly with its 40mm case, more complicated dial and blue alligator strap. It may be more of a “special occasion” watch, but with a dial this nice, I’m not sure I would want to have it off the wrist all that often.

Both watches will officially be launched and available from September 1, 2026.
