2021 Hublot Big Bang DJ Snake

by Chamath Gamage

Last month Hublot unveiled the latest limited edition model to celebrate their 3-year partnership with the well-renowned celebrity Dj Snake. Arguably the most-streamed French artist in the world, with a variety of major hits, DJ Snake worked together with Hublot to release the Big Bang DJ Snake.

Dj Snake’s credentials are certainly something to be happy about for the electronic music star. He has worked with a myriad of celebrities, with big names including Selena Gomez, Diplo, Kanye West, Lil Jon, and Justin Beiber. Dj Snake first came to the public light with his smash hit back in 2013 “Turn down for what”, which was then followed on by several other hits including “Lean On”, “Loco Contigo”, “Selfish Love” and “Let me Love you”. He is also the first French artist to have two songs with over a billion songs on Spotify. His other accolades include MTV Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and three NRJ Music Awards.

Now, three years since DJ Snake’s partnership with Hublot began, he is able to get his name behind a limited edition timepiece.  “To be able to wear – and also offer my fans – a watch which reflects my personality is something that has been very important to me since the start of my partnership with Hublot. I am delighted to have been able to combine my inspiration with the expertise of the fantastic watchmakers and technicians at this Swiss brand.” – DJ Snake

Design:

Hublot’s iconic Big Bang model has been given quite a facelift, with some beautiful colours used to make the watch stand out. Several blue and purple hues have been used throughout the watch which brings out an optical effect in which the colours can change depending on the light and different viewing angles. The bezel along with the six titanium components on the 45 mm case has been given special treatment, similar to that of black PVD.

DJ Snake’s presence on the watch comes in the form of the cut-outs on the outer edge of the bezel, which makes the Big Bang DJ Snake almost immediately noticeable and sets it apart from Hublot’s other timepieces. On the sapphire dial, we can see a globe with the same colours as on the case being used. This globe is skeletonised to show the movement underneath, with the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock sub-counters also blending in with the globe nicely. The movement underneath has been given a black fumé finish, which allows the globe and its several hues of blue and purple to really stand out.

For DJ Snake, the globe represents something special. It is a nod to not only his travels across the world but also as a celebration of his hit music being played across the world.

Movement:

The movement used is Hublot’s in-house HUB1242 UNICO movement. This flyback chronograph movement has a frequency of 4Hz (28, 800 VpH) and puts out a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. As we would expect from the Big Bang model, the watch comes with an open case back in which the movement can be seen, with the rotor even hollowed out to provide more visual effect.

The Big Bang DJ Snake comes with two straps, with the first being made from rubber and having a myriad of colours (grey, black, and purple camouflage) that is reflective of the watch case. The second strap is also made from rubber however this time has a black ribbed structure.

Limited to just 100 pieces, the Big Bang DJ Snake is certainly unique. The different colours along with sharp design will make anyone glance at Hublot’s “Art of Fusion”. Hublot CEO, Ricardo Guadalupe, is quite excited about this piece as he states “DJ Snake turns everything he touches to gold! We are thrilled to have been able to channel his outstanding creativity into this new limited edition piece. The result is truly multifaceted, just like DJ Snake’s talents!”
