Breitling has lately been creating some of the best athleisure watches in the market, rolling practicality and aesthetic appearance into one. Last year the brand released the Breitling Endurance Pro models, which was designed to both a lightweight watch for athletes, while at the same time being a causal, everyday sports chronograph.
Now, using the Endurance Pro as the blueprint, Breitling has created a special series in their athleisure watch range; the Endurance Pro IRONMAN watches. This latest timepiece by Breitling is being released on the back of their longstanding partnership with IRONMAN and is a way of celebrating the Swiss brand becoming the Official Luxury Watch of IRONMAN.
The IRONMAN events and Breitlings athleisure timepieces are a perfect collaboration. Breitling CEO, Georges Kern says that “IRONMAN truly reflects our core values of performance and endurance. We’ve designed this to be an ideal watch for elite athletes as well as a casual, everyday sports chronograph for active people who want that winning combination of performance and luxury.”
The Breitling Endurance Pro Ironman comes in two versions; the Endurance Pro IRONMAN and the Endurance Pro IRONMAN Finisher. Both models come with a 44mm case made out of Breitlight® which is said to be 3.3 times lighter than titanium and 5.8 times lighter than steel while being stronger than both. The Breitlight® material has exceptional resistance to scratches, traction, and also corrosion. The ideal material for an athleisure timepiece, Breitlight® also offers anti-magnetic and anti-allergic properties, while also having a warmer touch and feel when compared to steel thanks to its thermal stability.
Both models also come with a bi-directional rotating bezel, which has engraved compass points. The watches have three sub-dials, which include a small constant second, 1/10th second, and a 30-minute chronograph sub-dial. The hour and minute hands have been coated in SuperlumiNova as well.
Where these two models differ is the dial and finishing. The Endurance Pro IRONMAN is available to everyone and comes with a red dial and matching red accents throughout the watch. To match the dial, the watch also comes with a vibrant red rubber strap. The Endurance Pro IRONMAN features a unique IRONMAN inscription instead of the normal Breitling inscription.
The second variant, Endurance Pro IRONMAN Finisher, is only available to athletes that have completed an IRONMAN event. This version is available exclusively through IRONMAN channels. The caseback of this timepiece comes with a special IRONMAN Finisher series engraving. The dial of the Endurance Pro IRONMAN Finisher is black with gold accents throughout the watch. Like the first variant, this model comes with a matching black rubber strap.
The movement used for both variants is Breitling’s Caliber 82. This movement is a COSC-certified thermocompensated SuperQuartz movement, which is said to be ten times more precise than a regular quartz movement. The battery life on this CAliber 82 movement is roughly 3-4 years. Having a high accuracy movement is a definite necessity for a watch that is marketed to be used on actual triathlon events.
Breitling has said that these won’t be the only models planned for the IRONMAN Community, with more timepieces to be expected in the future. As Georges Kern put it best, “these eye-catching watches perfectly capture the energetic and versatile spirit of the iconic IRONMAN Triathlon Series.”
