Seiko Prospex HBC010 Europe Limited Edition Captures The Beauty Of Lake Hallstatt

Seiko’s Prospex HBC010 Europe Limited Edition combines Lake Hallstatt inspiration, a green-and-gold dial and serious 300m dive-watch capability.

Seiko’s latest Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver HBC010 brings a rich green-and-gold colour to one of the brand’s most historically important dive-watch designs. This release will be a European-exclusive limited edition, inspired by the stunning Lake Hallstatt in Austria.

Lake Hallstatt is known for its dramatic reflections, with dark green water, surrounding beautiful forest, the mountain slopes, and village architecture. Drawing from one of Austria’s most recognisable landscapes, this scenery is a perfect fit for the Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver European edition, as the green dial can be linked to the lake’s alpine setting, forested surrounds and deeper waters, while the gold accents add warmth against that natural backdrop.

This is also the modern version of the Prospex, evolved from the 2024 generation, with the design tracing back to Seiko’s first dive watch from 1965. The updates introduced in the 2024 edition are still carried over, such as a reduced case profile while having improved water resistance, and improved mechanics to suit as well. Limited to 1,400 pieces, this Prospex feels fresh in personality thanks to this beautiful green-and-gold execution

Lake Hallstatt Inspiration Meets Prospex Dive-Watch Design

The Seiko Prospex HBC010 Europe Limited Edition, as mentioned earlier, comes housed in the new generation Prospex profile, which measures 40mm in diameter with a 13mm thick profile. The lug-to-lug measures 46.4mm, which I think is an overall great size, as not only does it cater to the modern trend of smaller-sized watches, but it will also suit a variety of wrist sizes and will still feel like a proper dive watch thanks to the 13mm thickness.

I’ve always felt that dive watches should have some weight to them when worn on the wrist, as it reinforces the robust and purpose-built nature of the watch, especially when it is designed to handle proper underwater use. And with this HBC010 timepiece being rated to a depth of 300m, you want that reassurance even before entering the water that the watch can actually withstand these depths. The dark green unidirectional bezel with golden gilt-style markings is also a beautiful touch that connects back to the stunning Lake Hallstatt theme.

This theme then carries over to the dial, which is the main visual update to this European Limited Edition. The dark green colourway of the dial features a beautiful sunray-brushed finish, which changes the tones of the dial from light green to dark forest green at different lighting angles.

The hour indices and hands feature golden outlines, which are slightly darker than the tones used on the bezel. This gold complements the deep green of the dial nicely, keeping the watch grounded and scenery-inspired as it was intended to, rather than being playful or overly bright in its aesthetic.

Seiko has also used cream-coloured LumiBrite for the indices and hands, which gives the watch’s gold elements a lighter shade while also providing excellent low-light visibility, a key ingredient for a tool-style dive watch. The integration of the date window between 4 and 5 o’clock adds to the functionality of the timepiece; however, its placement does make the dial feel unbalanced. However, Seiko has done well to negate this as much as possible by making the window as small as possible, while also colour matching it to the dial.

Seiko’s 72-Hour 6R55 Automatic Calibre

The movement powering the Seiko Prospex HBC010 Europe Limited Edition is the automatic Calibre 6R55. This is one of Seiko’s high-end calibres, featured in their more prominent timepieces. While the beat rate of 3Hz (21,600 VpH), can be improved, it offers an excellent power reserve of 72 hours, or three days. The calibre features a stop-seconds function, so when you pull the crown out to adjust the time, it can be accurately set right down to the second.

The steel case back features the “LIMITED EDITION” inscription, with the Seiko Prospex logo at the heart and centre. As there is no sapphire crystal caseback, the movement story is more about practicality than decoration. It also suits the pricing of the timepiece without pushing it into the brand’s premium Marinemaster category.

Initial Thoughts

The Seiko Prospex HBC010 Europe Limited Edition is a release that instantly caught my attention, largely because of the inspiration behind it. I have always wanted to visit Austria and see Lake Hallstatt, as it is certainly one of my bucket-list destinations. So when Seiko introduced a piece dedicated to this stunning location, I jumped at the chance to cover it.

The beautiful scenery that surrounds Lake Hallstatt is captured wonderfully here, from the greenery of the mountain range to the golden sunlight hitting the buildings of the town, and the reflections playing across the lake. For me, the green-and-gold dial actually does justice to the scenery.

What I also like is how Seiko has translated that inspiration into the finer details of the watch. The contrast between the darker bezel and the sunburst finish of the dial gives the watch a strong sense of depth, while the 300m water resistance means this is still a proper Prospex diver at heart. And considering Lake Hallstatt is around 125 metres deep, if you wanted to explore the depths of the lake with this Prospex, you actually could, making the inspiration behind the timepiece feel even more fitting!
