The time has finally come, Omega have released the next Snoopy. 50 years ago, in 1970, Omega received the coveted Silver Snoopy Award from NASA, recognising the brands unique contribution to space exploration through the Omega Speedmaster’s vital support during the Apollo 13 mission.

Now, Omega has unveiled a truly special timepiece to commemorate the 50th anniversary of that mission. Snoopy playing a crucial role in the watches design, featuring prominently on the 9 O’clock sub dial as an embossed silver medallion. The image of the famous beagle is an exact copy of the pin given to NASA astronauts who receive a Silver Snoopy Award for their service.

The main dial of the new piece is also made from silver, and then laser engraved with Ag925. The sub dials, traditional mainstays of the Speedmaster design, are toned in a deep blue in keeping with the blue PVD coated hands and hour markers. It does appear that no more easter eggs are found dial side unlike previous Snoopy editions, the real fun is on the case back.

Snoopy goes into orbit thanks to his animated black and white Command and Service Module on a magical hand. Activating the chronograph sends Snoopy on a trip around the moon, the lunar surface being decorated on the sapphire crystal using a unique micro-structured metallisation.

In the background of the case back image, our pale blue rock is seen, rotating once per minute in sync with the watch’s small seconds hand, and symbolises the precise rotation of the Earth. The iconic quote, “Eyes on the Stars”, is included within the black universe. Omega’s NIAD locking system ensures all case back engravings and features are set correctly and in the upright position.

This strap is attached to a 42 mm case in stainless steel, which is inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster style (the first watch worn on the moon in 1969). The tachymeter scale, with the iconic “Dot over Ninety”, is shown in white enamel on a blue ceramic [ZrO2] bezel ring.
