Seiko introduces a Presage Cocktail Australasian Limited Edition model with a brand new stunning dial, showcasing Seiko’s unwavering commitment to crafting horological masterpieces.
Unveiled earlier this week, The Seiko Presage Cocktail Australasian Limited Edition is certainly one of the brands more stand out pieces, as the unique dial demands attention. Limited to just 1000 models, this new timepiece takes inspiration from the bespoke cocktail ‘Irori Moments’ created by award-winning Australian whisky distillery – LARK.
Based in Tasmania, LARK Distillery is the first carbon neutral distillery in Australia since April 2021. LARK has been producing premium Australian whiskey for the past 30 years. Although the whisky industry in Australian hasn’t been around as long (30 years) compared to other parts of the world, the unique climate conditions present in Australia allows for different types of whiskey to be produced. LARK Distillery has won numerous awards, including Master Medal at the World Whisky Masters London (August 2023), category winners at the 2023 World Whiskies Awards and 2022 Winner of AWA Whiskey Of The Year Award just to name a few.
Seiko couldn’t have chosen a better inspiration source for a timepiece that’s based around alcoholic beverages, especially as a limited edition for the Australian community. Seiko states that “this new model pays particular attention to LARK’s creation, Irori Moments, a bespoke cocktail inspired by the traditional Japanese hearth, a cherished gathering place to socialise, relax, and create shared memories. This cocktail captures the essence of time and shared moments, aligning perfectly with LARK’s vision of sharing “whisky moments.”
The Seiko Presage Australasian Cocktail Time Limited Edition (SRPK50J) comes in a 40.5mm stainless steel case with rose gold colour plating, with an open see-through case back. The case beautifully complements the dial, as the two colours tones are somewhat similar. The bezel also shines and plays with light well, with the rose gold colour giving off a very aesthetic appearance.
As mentioned earlier, this Presage Cocktail timepiece has been inspired by the bespoke cocktail “Irori Moments”, which is reflected in the dial. The cocktail, Irori Moments, includes ingredients such as Tasmanian-grown wasabi from Shima Wasabi, and local plums (which give the fruity and floral notes). Skilfully combined together, it balances out the soft, earthy tones of LARK’s Tasmanian Peated Whisky. The end result, is a rich velvety texture with a subtle smoky finish, with the cocktail boasting a rich golden colour.
This final result is what’s being displayed on the dial of the Seiko Presage Australasian Cocktail Time Limited Edition. The golden tones is mixed with flakes shown throughout the dial. This textured face replicates the warm inviting colours of the Irori Moments cocktail in very aesthetically pleasing manner. Seiko states that the hour indices are “drawing inspiration from the graceful lines of a cocktail glass, harmoniously blending the worlds of timekeeping and mixology.” While the colour tones of the hour indices is rose gold and does match the dial colours, the shining at different angles of light make the indices stand out well.
The movement inside the Seiko Presage Australasian Cocktail Time Limited Edition is the Calibre 4R36. This reliable movement operates at frequency of 3Hz (21,600 VpH) and gives out a standard power reserve of 41 hours. Thanks to the open case back, much of the movement can be seen, especially the stand-out feature, the golden skeletonised rotor. The individual limited edition number of each model is also shown on the case back.
The timepiece is presented in a leather calf strap in brown colour, which matches nicely with the overall colour tones of the watch. As this is a limited edition model, and showcased as a true collectors item, Seiko is also presenting the watch in a distinctive whisky barrel timber box, which further enhances its allure as a timeless keepsake.
