To launch the new SuperOcean Heritage Collection, Breitling, along with longtime Ambassador and 8-time world champion, Stephanie Gilmore, held an exclusive event on the Gold Coast at the brand new Mondrian at Burleigh Heads.

Breitling knows how to make a splash, both figuratively and literally, when it comes to their SuperOcean Heritage Collection thanks to their partnerships with ambassadors like surfing GOAT, Kelly Slater and our very own 8-time surfing World Champion, Stephanie Gilmore. While we haven’t met the former, we had the pleasure of attending an exclusive lunch at the newest hot spot on the Gold Coast over the weekend, The Mondrian down at Burleigh Heads, with the team from Breitling Oceania and the lovely and talented Stephanie Gilmore.

Breitling is going big this year, which is saying something coming off the back of last year’s 140th Anniversary. However, this year has already seen some notable releases from the brand, including the new Top Time B31 featuring the latest in-house calibre B31 movement, new Top Time Racing chronographs, and a brand-new Navitimer B19 Perpetual Calendar, to name a few. We’ve been lucky to get our hands on all of these, and most recently, the latest additions to the Breitling stable, the new SuperOcean Heritage collection. And this is what we’ve headed to the Gold Coast to celebrate!

The Mondrian Gold Coast is the newest luxury hotel to open its doors on the coast, and this being the first Mondrian in Australia, has chosen a prime location across from the beach at one of Australia’s premier surf destinations: Burleigh Heads. So it was fitting that the Mondrian Sky House was the venue for Breitling to put on a lavish lunch to celebrate the launch of the new SuperOcean Collection, and why not invite Breitling Ambassador and 8-time World Champion surfer, Stephanie Gilmore to help?

We were greeted with a stunning Gold Coast day – sun shining, light breeze and 23 degrees (Celsius), which made the 180-degree view from the Sky House even more spectacular as you look up towards Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise, and then back down to the Burleigh Pavilion and the headland. We were also greeted with a beautiful set-up inside with the tables laid out ready for the three-course meal and matching wines, live entertainment and of course, Breitling watches!

The SuperOcean Heritage collection had pride of place on the balcony, allowing guests to view the new watches in the sun and overlooking the beach. The new Kelly Slater limited edition seemed to be a favourite, and rightfully so, as the floral pattern on the blue dial comes to life outdoors in the sun, exactly where the watch is meant to be.

Stephanie Gilmore mingled with the guests prior to lunch, talking about her time surfing across the globe, but more importantly, talking to the guests about them, what they do, their love of watches (and Breitling) and everything in between. For someone who has met his fair share of celebrities, actors and sports people over the years, I can wholeheartedly say that Steph is as nice and as down to earth as they come.

Over lunch, Steph did a bit of a Q&A with Breitling Oceania Managing Director, Lars Summers and spoke about her time surfing, what drives her to be the best at what she does, overcoming obstacles and of course, why she has been a Breitling Ambassador since 2018. She also looked great in the new SuperOcean Heritage 36mm in the light green, and as she said on the day, she loves that a luxury brand has watches with some colour, and as she is an ocean girl, loves the look.

Guests mingled throughout the day, and many were able to try on the new collections as well as some of the old favourites. Breilting also had the new sunglasses range, which was launched in conjunction with the new SuperOcean collection. The new line has been done in conjunction with Cutler and Gross, a luxury sunglass brand based in the UK and made in Italy now available to purchase in store and online. Again, another hit with the guests who had the opportunity to try on, and as a special surprise, got to take home a pair each. Well done, Breitling!

Watch spotting was en pointe too, with most people wearing their favourite Breitling timepieces to the event. From SuperOceans to Navitimers and everything in between. Check some of these out below…

Overall, it was a great afternoon. Sun, beach, great food and great company. Talking to all the guests, it seems everyone had a superb afternoon and had a lot of fun. While the watches were the drawcard, I think these events are always about the people you meet and talk to, with everyone having a shared passion for one thing – watches!
