Seiko’s 5 Sports MOTOCOMPO Limited Edition brings Honda’s ultra-compact motorcycle charm to a bold, nostalgic and accessible field watch.
Seiko has introduced a brand-new 5 Sports limited-edition timepiece made in collaboration with Honda. The watch takes inspiration from one of Honda’s cult-favourite models, the MOTOCOMPO. Seiko has taken the aesthetic design behind the MOTOCOMPO and used it on the timepiece to create a bright and vivid model that references this iconic ultra-compact vehicle.
The Honda MOTOCOMPO was first released in 1981 as a recreational motorcycle that focused its design around compactness and practicality. The motorcycle featured a lightweight 42kg body and a 49cc two-stroke engine. However, what made it unique and gave it that wow factor was the fact that it was foldable. The handlebars and footrests could be compacted, as the MOTOCOMPO was essentially designed to be stored inside the boot of a Honda City compact car.
The idea behind the MOTOCOMPO was certainly clever, as at the time Honda proposed it as a “six-wheeled lifestyle”. As mentioned earlier, this translates to combining the comfort of a car with the manoeuvrability of a motorcycle. This gave owners a lot more flexibility, as they could use a small bike once they had reached their destination in their car as a means of getting around more easily in tighter urban environments.
And this is why it feels like this collaboration is perfectly suited for Seiko’s 5 Sports Field Series. Not only does this field watch already have a compact platform, but it also has that casual, utilitarian personality, perfectly in line with the concept behind Honda’s MOTOCOMPO. Limited to 8,000 pieces worldwide and individually numbered, the Seiko 5 Sports MOTOCOMPO has a collector-focused theme while still being accessible at only AUD $575.
Compact Proportions With Bold MOTOCOMPO Character
The Seiko 5 Sports MOTOCOMPO HDB010K comes housed in a compact stainless steel case with hard coating, measuring 36.4mm in diameter, 12.5mm thick and 44.4mm lug-to-lug. These are certainly compact measurements, which means the watch will cater best to smaller and medium wrist sizes, while likely appearing a little small on larger wrists.
But this is also why the watch works so well with this MOTOCOMPO collaboration, as the compact design of the watch naturally reflects the motorcycle’s compact proportions. A 36.4mm field-style watch feels like the perfect design for a motorcycle that is meant to be foldable, lightweight and cleverly packaged.

This certainly feels like a watch made for Seiko and Honda fans, or for anyone who enjoys a little personality and something fun in their collection! It may not be the most serious Seiko 5 sports release, but that’s exactly what makes this watch so appealing.
