Bremont’s Terra Nova collection may have been born from field-watch inspiration; however, this latest HRR Chronograph takes the platform from land to river as it pays tribute to the Henley Royal Regatta. Limited to 150 pieces, the Bremont Terra Nova HRR Chronograph celebrates Bremont’s partnership as Official Timing Partner of one of the world’s most prestigious rowing events.
The connection Bremont has with Henley Royal Regatta is more than just being the Official Timing Partner, as the Maison’s manufacture, The Wing, is based in Henley-on-Thames, placing the brand physically close to the event’s historic stretch of the River Thames.
Henley Royal Regatta is one of the key events during the British summer season, and it has quite the history too, having been held annually since 1839. So rather than using rowing as a decorative theme for the Terra Nova, Bremont is instead tying the watch to a long-standing sporting institution known for its heritage, competition and tradition.
This limited edition goes beyond just a simple colour change, which is immediately apparent when you first look at this Terra Nova. Bremont has included a dedicated stroke counter designed for rowing. Operated with the chronograph pusher, the stroke-counter bezel allows “the wearer to measure stroke rate and cadence during training or racing, giving the watch a practical link to the sport it celebrates.”
Regatta Colours Meet Purpose-Built Chronograph Design
This latest Terra Nova HRR Chronograph edition is housed in a 42.5mm two-piece 904L stainless steel case, which combines a mixture of satin-brushed and polished finishing, highlighting the watch’s luxurious and sporty character. The signature Terra Nova tonneau-shaped case design remains, keeping the watch aligned with the broader Terra Nova Chronograph platform, while the high-grade steel gives it a more refined and durable character.
This is quite a thick chronograph, measuring 14.8mm in height; however, this is a design trait the Terra Nova Chronograph collection has always carried. It might not be for everyone, especially those looking for a chronograph with a slimmer profile, but this is a watch designed to be worn during sporting competitions like rowing, where a substantial wrist presence brings a stronger sense of purpose.
I am a big fan of the dial execution on this Terra Nova, as the colour palette is visually bold and appealing. It moves away from the darker and earthier tones that have featured in the regular Terra Nova Chronographs of the past, and this time around adopts a crisp white lacquered metal base. What this does is give the HRR edition a much brighter and more summery personality, which lines up perfectly with the Henley Royal Regatta competition.
Then we have the royal blue and navy details, which are used throughout the dial, including the blue applied numerals, indices, minute track and matte blue sub-dials. This is not a colour palette that was chosen at random, as the blue and white combination references the official colours of Henley Royal Regatta, helping the watch feel connected to the event rather than just another Terra Nova variation.
There are also a few neat little details on the dial that add to the storytelling behind this piece. Firstly, we get the Henley Royal Regatta logo, which sits proudly above the date window at 6 o’clock. Just underneath this date window, Bremont has also included the inscription “Henley-on-Thames” in tribute to the town’s rich rowing heritage and the Maison’s manufacture, The Wing. The chronograph seconds hand is also done in “deckchair” green, taking inspiration from the iconic Henley Royal Regatta deckchairs that line the riverbank of the Stewards’ Enclosure.
A Robust Automatic Chronograph Built For Sporting Timing
The engine inside this latest Terra Nova HRR Chronograph is the BC77AC automatic chronograph movement. The movement powers the timekeeping, constant seconds at 9 o’clock, central chronograph seconds, date complication and the 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock.
For a sporting chronograph, the movement offers robust performance, delivering a 62-hour power reserve while operating at 4Hz, or 28,800vph, for accurate timekeeping. The movement is based on the Sellita SW500, giving it a proven workhorse foundation, while allowing Bremont to build this colourful HRR edition around dedicated stroke-counter functionality for Henley Royal Regatta.
Initial Thoughts
This latest Bremont Terra Nova HRR Chronograph might just be my favourite version yet, and it’s not because I’m an avid rowing enthusiast. Rather, it is the blue and white colour combination that works particularly well, giving the watch a crisp, high-contrast appearance while also making it very eye-catching.
I also like how you get both a stainless steel bracelet and a blue embossed leather strap as options, because it gives the watch far more personality and versatility when it comes to wearability. Personally, I think the watch looks especially good on the blue leather strap, as the blue tone matches the blue details of the dial and bezel nicely, while also helping to break up the amount of steel on the watch visually.
The Terra Nova HRR Chronograph feels like a strong and thoughtful extension of Bremont’s partnership with Henley Royal Regatta. Rather than simply incorporating a colour theme that reflects the official colours of HRR, Bremont has included subtle details that give the watch proper sporting relevance. It doesn’t feel overdone, and with it being limited to 150 pieces, it gives the watch a collector’s edge too.
