H. Moser & Cie. welcomes the sunny season with a new iteration of the Pioneer Centre Seconds, presented in a colour like no other.
It’s the season for fun in the sun. Well, not for us Aussies, with winter slowly creeping in, but for the Northern Hemisphere, where much of the watch world is based. As a result, we’re beginning to see plenty of new, vibrantly coloured timepieces that are ready-made for summer outings. Perhaps no watch brand knows this better than H. Moser & Cie., who have specialised in making some of the finest, and occasionally most playful, watches in the world. Combining their mastery of microengineering with a touch of whimsy, H. Moser & Cie. has established itself as a unique player in the haute horlogerie scene.
Their flagship collection, the Pioneer Centre Seconds, is exemplary of their approach to watchmaking. Perhaps the purest sports watch on the market, it serves as the perfect canvas for all sorts of creative expression. This Euro summer, H. Moser & Cie. has elected to outfit it with a bright new combination of colours that embraces the playfulness of the season.
Berry Wearable
The H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds measures 40mm wide, 48.1mm lug-to-lug, and 12.3mm thick in stainless steel. It’s an extremely pure, casual-leaning aesthetic, but one that wouldn’t look out of place in dressier scenarios. However, the energetic colours bursting from the watch do away with any notion that this is a demure, formal piece.

The sporty aesthetic is bolstered by the hollowed lugs across the case flanks, which have been ribbed for an extra aerodynamic touch. The case profile flows seamlessly into the blockier lugs, which fall away quickly to allow the watch to wrap comfortably around the wrist.

The watch is fitted to a bright yellow rubber strap, which is also perforated for added comfort and ventilation. Flowing into a deployant clasp and buckle combination, it provides an unparalleled and unobtrusive wearing experience. Rarely will this watch need to be removed, thanks to its sheer wearability and 120 metres of water resistance.
Berry Pretty
As always, though, it’s not the wearability that draws you into an H. Moser & Cie. watch, but the design of the dial. This rendition of the Pioneer Centre Seconds is part of the brand’s Concept series, which completely forgoes any branding on the dial. It allows the watch to speak for itself—and the colours effectively scream.

At the centre is a sunray-brushed Berry Purple fumé dial, its rich, dark tone complementing the brighter yellow flange. This is paired with the signature leaf-shaped hour and minute hands, which carry their own dollops of yellow lume. The watch uses this high-contrast palette to highlight the purity of H. Moser & Cie.’s creation.

A subtle detail I love is how the yellow flange is actually set above the rest of the dial, adding a welcome sense of dimensionality. But while I love the purity of the Pioneer Concept line, I do miss the indexes; accurate time-setting with a watch like this can be a little challenging.
Berry Functional
What’s rarely contested, though, is H. Moser & Cie.’s ability to make a spectacular movement. Turning the watch around, the open caseback reveals the automatic Calibre HMC 201, a staple movement introduced by the brand in 2024. It beats at a relaxed 3Hz (21,600VpH); An interesting choice given the luxury standard of 4Hz, but not an unwelcome one by any stretch of the imagination. Backed by a 72-hour power reserve, the Calibre HMC 201 makes a compelling case as a reliable daily driver.

The movement is also delicately finished, featuring a skeletonised rotor that reveals the mainspring barrel, gear train, and balance. Combined with H. Moser & Cie.’s anthracite-coated plates and bridges, along with the brand’s signature double stripes, it’s every bit as beautiful as it is reliable.
Initial Thoughts
A vibrant reinterpretation of the sport-chic model line, the new H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds Sunberry is another demonstration of the brand’s creative ethos. Putting minimalist lines against a maximalist colour scheme sounds almost absurd on paper. Yet somehow, the brand pulls it off elegantly, producing a versatile timepiece from a decidedly non-versatile colour combination.

It recalls the essence of why enthusiasts like me fall in love with H. Moser & Cie.’s watches so easily. Their penchant for serious watchmaking and unserious charm makes them a joy to witness in the watch world, but it’s also the reason they’re often touted as one of the finest independent watchmakers in the industry.
While the brand itself takes a back seat to the colour arrangement of the Sunberry, removing any visible evidence of its involvement, the watch remains unmistakably Moser. From form and function alone, one can immediately recognise what makes this new release so recognisably, quintessentially, an H. Moser & Cie. timepiece.
