Omega has released a new Seamaster Aqua Terra collection to commemorate one of the famous global sport games; Golf. The brand has dubbed this collection the Aqua Terra “Golf” as they aim the eye catching pieces to be a trusting partner placed firmly on the wrist when aiming to hit those hole-in-ones.
The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra “Golf” collection so far consists of two models with their own unique style. The styling for these watches has been derived from two prolific golfers who have truly earned their stripes; Sergio Garcia and Rory Mcllroy. Sergio Garcia with the 2017 Masters under his belt, loves the colour green. Omega has designed one of the pieces in the Aqua Terra Golf collection with green tones throughout to match the golfers admiration for the colour. The second piece in the collection is styled vastly different. This piece has tones of orange throughout to match the colour preference of Rory Mcllroy.
Although it seems as though the two watches are different in terms of styling cues, there are still design similarities between the models. Each watch comes with a 41mm stainless steel casing that has a “wave” design shown on the back. Both models also come with a date window placed on the 6 o’clock position. The hour, minute and second hands along with the hour indexes all have the same design, with only the finishing varying from the two models. This is where the similarities between the two models finish however.
Sergio Garcia’s model comes with a black sunbrushed dial with a beautiful “teak” pattern that can be seen to its full effect when rotated under direct light. The piece also comes with rhodium plated hands and hour indexes that have been filled with Super-LumiNova. Sergo Garcia’s favourite colour green has been used for the central seconds hand, the “Seamaster” inscription on the watch face and the 15,30,45 and 60 lettering on the minute track. To round it off, Sergio Garcia’s Aqua Terra Golf edition comes with a black Nato strap that has two green stripes down the middle. With the addition of the Nato strap, it compliments the overall look of the black and green theme of the Aqua Terra Golf nicely.
As mentioned earlier, Golfer Rory Mcllroy’s Aqua Terra Golf edition is almost a direct contrast to Sergio Garcia’s timepiece. The watch face is a silvery dial which also includes the same “teak” pattern that is displayed on the black dial. The hands have been blackened out however along with the hour indexes so that it has a much better contrast on the white dial. Not only does this make the dial really stand out, it makes readability easier as well. The hands and indexes have also been filled with Super-LumiNova. As with the black and green of Sergio Garcia’s model, Rory Mcllroy’s Golf edition comes with a black Nato Strap with two orange stripes making the overall look of the watch very aesthetically pleasing.
The movement used by Omega for both these pieces in the Aqua Terra Golf collection is the Omega Master Chronometer Calibre 8900. The Calibre 8900 is a self winding movement that has been certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). With a resistance to magnetic fields of upto 15,000 Guass, the Calibre 8900 is also able to self wind in both directions to produce a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. As the Omega Aqua Terra Golf collection comes with an open case back, the rhodium-plated rotor and bridges with “Geneva waves in arabesque” as termed by Omega can truly be appreciated for its beauty.
With the two contrasting styling options, the Omega Aqua Terra Golf collection will be able to suit golfing sport enthusiasts as well as admirers of the Aqua Terra models.
