Watch Advice – Five Yellow Coloured Dials Under $10,000

by Sameera Gamage

Perfect for the Australian summer, Watch Advice presents from the affordable to the more luxurious five yellow-dialed watches!

Yellow dial timepieces aren’t a common occurrence in the world of horology. Very few brands have a yellow dial timepiece as part of their regular collection, with some brands releasing this colour as a limited or special edition model. But maybe that’s what makes this colour desirable; the fact that it’s not as easily attainable gives it that alluring factor.

The colour yellow demands attention. Out of all the possible colours on a watch dial, I feel that yellow stands out the most due to its vibrant colour. The colour yellow by definition is considered the brightest and most energizing of the warm colours. The colour is also associated with being happy, which is why when we see yellow, our mood can sometimes be alleviated. A bright sunny day compared to a gloomy dark day can present two very different moods.

Currently, in Australia, sunny days are in full swing. The country is quite possibly going through one the hottest summers to date. This hot climate, however, means plenty of beach days and outdoor activities. What this translates to in the world of watches is fun, sporty summer timepieces.

What better way to showcase the scorching Australian sun in the world of horology than some stunning yellow dial timepieces! Watch Advice presents below five yellow dial watches, from the affordable to the luxurious, but under $10,000 AUD.

Citizen “Tsuyosa” Automatic

Ref: NJ0150-81Z

One of the hottest releases in recent times for Citizen has to be their “Tsuyosa” range of three-hander timepieces. The collection brings back the 70s styling, much like the Tissot PRX, but at a much cheaper price point.

The Citizen Tsuyosa Automatic comes in a 40mm stainless steel case that is designed to sit nicely on the wrist and, with the integrated bracelet, will also be worn comfortably. The bracelet finish is also worth noting. The three-link bracelet has central polished links, giving it a “president-style” aesthetic appearance.

While the Citizen “Tsuyosa” Automatic comes in a range of colours, the yellow stands far above the rest as a vibrant colour. The colour is almost like a yellow “mango” shade and is beautiful to look at. While it might be too stand-out for some, it really does make the watch “pop” and be noticeable from quite some distance.

Seiko Presage Cocktail Time

Seiko’s Presage Cocktail Time is a special piece that pays tribute to LARK’s creation, Irori Moments, a bespoke cocktail inspired by the traditional Japanese hearth. What is unique about this timepiece is that, firstly, it was dedicated to an Australian Distillery (LARK Distillery), and secondly, the dial of the watch mirrors the rich yellow/golden hues of the cocktail creation.

The textured dial, which has a gradient effect that makes it become more yellow/golden towards the edge of the dial, replicates in detail of the warm, inviting colours of Irori Moments. Even the hour markers and hands have been designed to reference the graceful lines of the cocktail glass.

If you are also a lover of whisky, then this Seiko creation will be right up your alley. The timepiece is presented in a distinctive whisky barrel timber box, further enhancing its connections to the world of whisky. DOXA Divingstar SUB200

Ref: 799.10.361.10

The DOXA Divingstar SUB200 is an affordable diver’s watch with a distinctive appearance that’s presented in a range of colours. This simple three-hander timepiece was first unveiled during Baselworld 2019 and is a highly favoured timepiece, especially in the diving category. The only downside may be is that it has a 42mm case size, which can be too large for modern tastes.

This timepiece, however, packs a strong punch in the affordable dive watches category. Firstly, it comes with a beautiful stainless steel “beads of rice” bracelet, making it more scratch-resistant, a folding clasp with a wetsuit extension for quick adjustments, and lastly, a hefty 200m of water resistance, making it ideal if you’re into deep diving, or wanting to go exploring the Great Barrier Reef!

The added bonus is the dial colours presented. Out of all the colours presented, the aquamarine and yellow dials stand out stunningly. The yellow has a rich, vibrant look, and with the hour indices and hands filled with white SuperLumi-Nova, it produces a nice contrasting effect that makes the dial easily readable. Another plus of the yellow dial is that it would make it easier to see underwater!

If the yellow dial wasn’t enough, the DOXA Divingstar SUB200 is also presented with a yellow rubber strap with a “beads of rice” design.

Breitling Superocean Automatic 42

Ref: A17375211I1S1

The Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 was created to be a stylistic yet performance-based watch for water-based pursuits. The story behind this timepiece starts in the 1960s, when scuba diving was the go-to activity. To help divers, where timing was everything, Breitling created a dive watch called the “Slow Motion”. One of the main selling points of this timepiece was that it was a “clear-cut dive watch possible by eliminating any feature that didn’t support their lifesaving needs underwater.”

The watch had large hour markers, hands, clean lines, and a high contrasting dial ring. While it was appealing to divers due to its easy readability, it quickly became popular among watch enthusiasts, too. This is how the Superocean line of watches were born. It took the design codes of the “Slow Motion” timepiece which the watch market loved, and added modern features to make it even more appealing. Modern features, like brightly coloured dials.

Like a few of the other models in this article, the Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 comes with a rich yellow dial, with once again white SuperLumi-Nova hour markers and hands presented on the dial. These elements are oversized to allow for easy underwater viewing. The minute track on the outer-portion of the dial is oversized as well. The watch is presented in either a black rubber strap which lets the dial stand out nicely, or a stainless steel 3-link bracelet. The Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 also has a sturdy 300m water resistance!

Specification

  • Case: 42mm x 12.5mm diameter
  • Case Material: Stainless Steel
  • Dial: Yellow coloured dial
  • Crystal: Cambered sapphire, glareproofed both sides
  • Water resistance: 300m (30 Bar)
  • Movement: Breitling 17
  • Movement Frequency: 4Hz (28,800 VpH)
  • Power reserve: 38 hours
  • Bracelet: Black rubber strap with stainless steel folding clasp.
