TAG Heuer brings the Aquaracer’s hardcore dive-watch roots back into focus with the new Professional 500 Date, combining 500m capability with a lighter, more wearable titanium design.
The TAG Heuer Aquaracer has long been a staple of the brand’s dive watch line, with roots dating back to 1978 with the original Heuer Reference 844 models. This was a rugged tool watch that laid the foundations for what would eventually become the modern Aquaracer line.
TAG Heuer developed the reference 844 over the years, and in 2004 officially gave it the title of Aquaracer. The collection was primarily known for its core dive-watch traits, including a unidirectional bezel, a screw-down crown, and high water resistance. The Aquaracer collection has featured many subtle evolutions since 2004, with the collection featuring 200m water resistance timepieces to the more modern Professional 300 redesign in 2021, with its slimmer case, ceramic 12-facet bezel, and overall improved ergonomics.

Now for Watches & Wonders 2026, the brand is diving further (quite literally), with an even more improved design offering 500m water resistance, alongside the robust TAG Heuer calibre TH30-00 movement. This, however, wasn’t the first time that the Aquaracer was offered with a 500m water-depth rating. TAG Heuer introduced a “hardcore” dive range in 2009, to succeed the brand’s Aquagraph models (which also featured a 500m depth rating). The models came with a helium escape valve, approximately 43mm case sizing, an oversized crown, and a distinctive rubber-ridged bezel with applied metal numerals that gave the watches a more “hardcore” appearance.
Built For The Deep, Styled For Impact
Unlike the 2009 Aquaracer, this latest edition features a more streamlined and much more wearable design. TAG Heuer is offering these new Aquaracer Professional 500 Date models in two versions, with both featuring a 43mm case made from sandblasted Grade 2 titanium, a material chosen specifically due to its lightness, corrosion resistance, and strong impact resistance. The case architecture backs up this streamlined design with a 500m water-resistance rating.
Aside from all these impressive technical facts, what I think is most impressive is the fact that the watch only weighs around 120 grams, which is quite impressive when the watch features such a depth rating, and also when you compare it to the 2009 edition. The case also comes with a helium escape valve at 10 o’clock, a unidirectional turning bezel, and a screw-down grade 2 titanium crown, all necessary components for a deep-rated dive watch.

The two executions of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 500 Date are presented in either a black gradient dial with a blue seconds hand and a blue circle around the minute track, or a black dial with a full orange minute track. Both models come with oversized rhodium-plated hour indices and hands that are filled with a large quantity of Super-LumiNova®, providing excellent legibility in or out of the water.
And as is tradition with the Aquaracer Professional collection, the lacquered dials are beautifully decorated with a wave-pattern, reinforcing the line’s aquatic theme, but also giving the black dials extra visual character. The models also feature a magnified date window at 6 o’clock, which I think has always been executed thoughtfully in these modern Aquaracer timepieces, as by replacing the 6 o’clock hour marker, providing a much more coherent and balanced design.
Performance To Match The Depth Rating
Sitting inside these new Aquaracer Professional 500 Date models is TAG Heuer’s Calibre TH30-00. These aren’t in-house movements, but rather have been specifically designed alongside Kenissi Manufacture SA, a specialist first based in Le Locle, to meet set diving standards such as ISO 3159. The movement, being designed to TAG Heuer’s specs, is also COSC certified, providing high levels of precision for long periods of time.
Incidentally, the only other time this movement has been used by TAG Heuer was in their now-discontinued Aquaracer Professional 1000 Super Diver. So bringing it back for these 500m depth-rated models makes perfect sense. Outside of the dive ratings, the Calibre TH30-00 delivers strong performance too, with a high frequency of 4Hz (28,800 VpH) and an impressive power reserve of 70 hours, ensuring the watch is not just capable underwater, but also highly practical for daily wear.
Initial Thoughts
The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 500 Date is a thoughtful evolution of TAG Heuer’s diver’s range. The brand has taken the old hardcore 500m concept and reworked it into its modern Aquaracer Professional collection, making it feel sharper, lighter, and much more wearable, thanks to the 42mm sandblasted grade 2 titanium case, 500m water resistance, helium escape valve, and black ceramic bezel.
Even with a more robust design and technical movement, what I like is that TAG Heuer has not forgotten about comfort and practicality. The sandblasted grade 2 titanium bracelet with diver’s extension delivers great adaptability, especially if you do both deepwater diving and wear it daily. The diver’s extension allows the watch to be correctly sized on the go to fit snug on the wrist over a diving suit, and then can be sized to fit for normal daily wear after!
Those double safety push-buttons add that extra sense of security you want from a watch built for serious underwater use. Backing all of this up is the COSC-certified Calibre TH30-00, giving the Aquaracer Professional 500 Date the mechanical substance to match its more purposeful design.
