Serious watches for those who aren’t: That’s Hublot’s whole philosophy. So, why not add a bit of joy to your watch collection with this violet Big Bang?
Watchmaking is a serious business. It is a delicate process, requiring significant knowledge across art, science, and a great deal of patience. Having had the privilege of seeing watchmakers around the world at work, it is a wonder they do not lose their minds in the effort. Perhaps that is because of their passion for the craft. I have yet to encounter a watchmaker, or a watch brand, that does not love horology in its entirety. The industry is full of enthusiasts, and we take joy in every aspect of it. It seems, then, that Hublot has taken that sense of joy and run with it.
At last year’s Watches and Wonders, they introduced the Big Bang One Click Joyful collection. With vibrant colours such as Sky Blue, Apple Green, Pink, and Orange, each paired with matching gemstones, this women’s rendition of the popular Big Bang became a not-so-serious sensation at the world’s biggest watch fair. With that success, it seems there was still room for one more. For Watches and Wonders 2026, Hublot has unveiled the Big Bang One Click Joyful Steel Purple, which joins the existing collection.
It All Clicks
Sized at 33mm with a case thickness of 10.55mm, the new addition to the Joyful family is as bold as its predecessors. Stainless steel remains the material of choice, finished with a combination of satin brushing and polished surfaces that maximise light play.
The sapphire crystal, treated with anti-reflective coating, ensures optimal legibility, while a water resistance of 100 metres underscores Hublot’s commitment to everyday durability. While stainless steel can sometimes feel weighty, this is offset by the bright purple and white rubber strap. The structured rubber construction ensures both comfort and durability, while the stainless steel deployant clasp provides a secure and refined closure.
A design staple since Hublot’s days as MDM Genève, every rubber-strapped Hublot pays tribute to the first luxury sports watch as conceived by Carlo Crocco. The ‘One Click’ moniker refers to the brand’s ingenious strap-changing system. By pressing the trapezoidal cut-out on either lug, the strap detaches instantly, allowing for quick changes.
This is especially convenient given that Hublot also includes an additional white rubber strap alongside the watch. While I would personally prefer the matching purple strap, the white option draws more attention to the dial and allows the star of the show to shine through.
Amazing Amethyst
Speaking of which, the design is brought together through the careful sourcing of gemstones matched to each colour. Here, 36 amethysts of identical quality, colour, and size have been selected, no small feat given that no two stones are ever truly alike.
Each is then meticulously cut, polished, and set by hand, creating a seamless and consistent flow of colour around the bezel. The gemstones and strap are complemented by Hublot’s signature H-shaped titanium screws, a clean white dial, and bold Arabic numerals. With its cooler tones, the violet hue stands out without overpowering Hublot’s iconic silhouette.
Mechanical Mastery
At its core, the timepiece is powered by the Calibre HUB1120, a reliable automatic movement based on the ever-popular Sellita SW1000-1. Operating at 4Hz (28,800VpH) and offering a power reserve of approximately 40 hours, the movement has been rigorously tested and adjusted to meet Hublot’s expectations. The tungsten rotor, for example, has been finished with a combination of polishing and microblasting. Details like these reflect the brand’s attention to detail, even in elements only visible through the transparent caseback.
Initial Thoughts
How do you turn joy into something tangible? Perhaps Hublot has the answer. The Big Bang One Click Joyful Steel collection gained acclaim by prioritising vibrant colours and a sense of fun just as much as technical execution. Now joined by this new purple variation, the spectrum is nearly complete. Perhaps a red or yellow version will follow.
It is not a major departure from the Big Bang DNA; you cannot expect a watch with that name to be subtle. Instead, it reinterprets it. This is not simply extravagance for its own sake, though it comes close.
It is an emotional expression in the form of a timepiece, using colour as its primary language. Ironically, that makes this iteration of the Big Bang more introspective than most, suited to those with exacting tastes or to watch lovers who simply want to have a bit more fun.
