Seiko’s latest 5 Sports release pays tribute to the heart-pounding world of Australian motorsport. Inspired by the racetrack’s raw surface, this limited-edition timepiece captures the spirit of performance and precision!

Last month, Seiko Australia announced the launch of its latest collaborative timepiece with the Repco Supercars Championship: the Seiko 5 Sports Supercars Limited Edition SRPL54K. This release is another milestone for Seiko Australia, celebrating a collaborative partnership that started in 2014 and has now recently been extended for an additional two years! This shows Seiko’s dedication to solidifying its role in the thrilling world of Australian motorsport.

In previous editions of the Supercars Limited Edition collection, Seiko have drawn inspiration from the precision engineering and raw power of the Supercars themselves. The designs of these timepieces paid homage to the incredible machines that define speed, endurance and performance. However, there is one vital element that, if left out, there would be no such thing as the world of motorsport: the racetrack. This is where the true battleground lies, without it, there is no race, no victory and no proving ground for teams to showcase their precision-engineered cars and skilful drivers.

With this in mind, for 2025, Seiko has dedicated the Seiko 5 Sports Supercars Limited Edition SRPL54K to the relentless energy, technical precision, and unforgiving nature ofthe track. This exclusive timepiece is more than just a watch, its a tribute to all those that dare to go out in full-throttle in every twist, turn, climb and descent, pushing the limits of engineering and driver ability.

“We are incredibly proud of our long-standing partnership with Supercars. This Limited-Edition Seiko 5 Sportswatch is a testament to our shared passion for performance and precision. Every detail has been carefully crafted to capture the essence of the racetrack, offering fans a tangible piece of Supercars memorabilia.”

Case Design

Seiko is presenting this latest 5 Sports Supercars Limited Edition SRPL54K in the traditional 5 Sports case, which measures 42.5mm in diameter and 13.4mm thick. Even though the watch has a “rugged” design, the timepiece still retains an element of luxury about it, with the case featuring a mixture of satin-brushed and polished surfaces. As with all Seiko 5 Sports timepieces, the crown is offset to the 4 o’clock position, with the crown guards showcasing the timepiece’s robust tool-watch character, not only enhancing the sporty aesthetics but also offering added protection for everyday wear.

The bezel insert has also been completely redesigned. Seiko has taken inspiration from the race track’s starting grid to showcase it on the bezel, which has been beautifully executed so that the 60-minute scale and the 5-minute increments in between are clear and easy on the eye. The 60-minute marker on the bezel has also been replaced with a red marker, a homage to the starting lights that signal the rush of competition.

Dial Design

The dial features various design elements that not only reference the race track but also work well together to make it easily readable and aesthetically pleasing. As standard with Seiko 5 Sports models, we get a day and date window at the 3 o’clock position. While normally, I prefer the date windows to be colour-matched to the dial to offer a balanced aesthetic, it does work well here as the rest of the indices are sharp and rectangular, and with the 6 and 12 o’clock markers being oversized and filled with lumbrite, it doesn’t feel so out of place.

The dial’s centre circle features a unique texture that mirrors the raw surface of the racing asphalt, another bold tribute to the track’s intensity. The centre circle is also outlined in red, which, when paired with the red seconds hand, gives it a touch of sportiness and standout appearance.

Movement

The engine sitting inside this latest Seiko 5 Sports is the brand’s trusted 4R36 automatic movement. The Calibre 4R36 is known for its reliability, durability and no-fuss performance, a true workhorse in Seiko’s lineup. The movement beats at 21,600 VpH (3Hz) and is able to give out a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Alongside the day and date functions, the movement also features hacking seconds (the second hand stops when setting the time). This is the go-to movement when it comes to the Seiko 5 Sports collection, proving itself as a dependable engine for daily wear.

Initial Thoughts

The latest Seiko 5 Sports Supercars Limited Edition SRPL54K isn’t just another collaborative timepiece between the brand and the Repco Supercars Championship; it’s a bold reminder of Seiko’s commitment to the Australian motorsport scene. From the asphalt-inspired dial to the starting grid bezel detail, every element of the design feels purposeful and rooted in the raw spirit of racing. This timepiece is an authentic homage to the battleground where precision, pressure and passion all collide, where the limits of the racetrack are tested.

Whether you’re a motorsport enthusiast or just like motorsport-inspired timepeices, those who secure this watch will also receive a specially designed collector’s box, featuring a detailed map of the legendary Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst — a fitting tribute to one of Supercars’ most iconic racetracks. Completing the experience, the box also houses a scaled replica of the pit lane watch tower, with the limited-edition serial number engraved on the case back, ensuring every piece remains an exclusive part of motorsport history!
