2021 Zenith Chronomaster Sport Rose Gold

by Chamath Gamage

Earlier this year, Zenith released the Chronomaster Sport collection, which marked the beginning of a new era for the brand’s quintessential sporty-chic chronograph. Watchadvice had the chance to do an in-depth review of the collection as it was released, with side-by-side comparisons on both the black and white dial Chronomaster Sport models. You can read the full review of these models here.

The Chronomaster Sport is brought together by years of history and knowledge of Zenith’s automatic chronographs. As Zenith put it “the Chronomaster Sport combines the spirit of the El Primero A386, the form of the Chronomaster De Luca and the high-frequency performance established by the El Primero Calibre for over 50 years in a sporty chronograph like no other – in both style and substance”.

Ever since the early days of the El Primero back in 1969, the Swiss brand has offered gold models of their automatic chronographs. Now, Zenith is upholding this tradition by adding this lustrous 18K rose gold model as the latest edition to the Chronomaster Sport line.

Design:

The 41mm case is donned in 18k Rose Gold, with a contrasting black bezel filled with matte gold lacquer for the 1/10th of a second scale markings. The chronograph pushers and crown have been done in 18k Rose Gold as well. The choice of the white lacquered dial is excellent for this model as it provides the perfect background contrast for the hands, indexes, and especially chronograph counters.

As per the first Chornomaster Sport models released earlier this year, the colours for the tri-counter remain unchanged, with the 3 o’clock 60-second counter in blue, 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock in black and the constant seconds counter at 9 ‘clock in silver. All hands (including the ones on the sub-counters) and the hour indexes have been done in 18k Rose Gold and filled with Superluminova to provide excellent night-time readability.

This 18k Rose Gold version comes exclusively with a black calf leather strap with an 18K rose gold clasp to match the case. The choice of black colour for the strap ensures that the 18k rose gold case and beautiful white dial is what stand out in this watch.

Movement :

With over fifty years of innovation and constant improvement under its belt, the latest version of the Manufacture’s El Primero 3600 calibre is used for the Chronomaster Sport line. Extracting even more performance from the movement, Zenith is now able to offer 1/10th of a second display from the 5hz (36’000 VpH) escapement. The power reserve of the movement has also been extended to approximately 60 hours. The case back of the watch is open, which offers a view into the El Primero 3600 calibre movement. The rotor is skeletonised and has the iconic five-pointed Zenith star motif.
