H. Moser & Cie. delve further into their mastery of watchmaking, presenting a new version of their Endeavour Minute Repeater Tourbillon Skeleton in Cosmic Rain.
For those who know me, you’ll know that one of my favourite brands of all time is H. Moser & Cie. Although they’ve become much better known in the public eye of late, they’ve taken their fame in stride while refusing to compromise on their unique brand identity.
Sure, they’ve done a few tongue-in-cheek projects, but beneath all the irreverence lies one of the most technically and artistically gifted watch brands in horological history. For evidence of that, look no further than the Endeavour collection, which has hosted a wide array of masterful references within its catalogue.
Of these watches, 2019’s Endeavour Minute Repeater Tourbillon is perhaps one of the most notable, as it laid the groundwork for the incredible complications that followed. In 2026, the brand reached an entirely new peak with the Endeavour Minute Repeater Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton, which retained the familiar framework while becoming worlds apart from its predecessor. Now, a new limited edition has joined its slightly older siblings in an exceptionally rare rendition the brand calls ‘Cosmic Rain’.
Out Of This World
The H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Minute Repeater Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Cosmic Rain is a familiar sight to fans of the brand. It retains the same case profile, measuring 40mm in diameter and just 14.4mm thick. The case material also remains unchanged: titanium, with a hollowed-out midsection for added resonance when the minute repeater plays.
I know what you’re thinking: even slightly exposing the inner workings of a case doesn’t sound like the best idea in the world, especially in terms of water resistance. Yet, it’s not an alien feature, having previously appeared elsewhere in Parmigiani Fleurier’s 30th Anniversary Carillon Tourbillon. And besides, you’re not taking Van Gogh’s Starry Night out with you into the water. Similarly, a haute horlogerie masterpiece such as this is perfectly at home on dry land.
In any case, the only protrusion besides the crown is the minute repeater’s gold activation slider, which also includes a thin Teflon runner for reduced friction and improved ease of use.
Completed with a grey alligator leather strap and matching titanium pin buckle, the overall wearing experience should surprise those expecting a mechanical monster. The lightness of titanium and the relatively ergonomic case should enhance the wearability of an otherwise imposing-looking watch.
Shooting Stars
And imposing it certainly is, as the dial, or lack thereof, spares no expense in aesthetic excellence. The openworked, skeletonised dial reveals every mechanism within the watch, including the minute repeater gongs, hammers and tourbillon, with virtually no interruptions. The only interruption, in fact, is a small domed sub-dial at 2 o’clock that displays the time.
This is where the Cosmic Rain distinguishes itself from its peers and gets its name. Instead of the classic fumé dial, H. Moser & Cie. has instead implemented blue aventurine glass and mother-of-pearl inlays.
Carefully placed within the multi-layered domed aventurine, these inlays recall Credor’s use of raden, a Japanese decorative craft that follows similar techniques, in the Goldfeather Tourbillon released in 2025. Together, the two materials evoke shooting stars streaking across a night sky in a dazzling display unlike anything else in modern watchmaking.
Skeleton Supreme
But if you’re afraid of getting lost in the hypnotic beauty of the sub-dial, just wait until you marvel at the movement. The manual-wind Cal. HMC 909 remains largely unchanged from its slightly older siblings, beating at a relaxed 3Hz (21,600VpH) with a 90-hour power reserve. Of course, that’s not what makes it special, as the Cal. HMC 909 is one of the most complex haute horlogerie movements on the market. First is the minute repeater, which, with a slide of the bolt, chimes the hours, quarter hours and minutes in sequence for an audible telling of the time.
The second, but equally impressive, attraction is the tourbillon, which rotates the watch’s escapement once per minute to counteract gravity’s effect on timekeeping. A tourbillon on its own is impressive enough, but H. Moser & Cie. has gone a step further with the cylindrical tourbillon.
Unlike conventional tourbillons, it features a cylindrical hairspring instead of a flat one. Inspired by 18th-century marine chronometers, it allows the tourbillon to maintain a more consistent rate while reducing friction. One final flourish can be appreciated from the side, where the cylindrical hairspring rises vertically to give the watch an added sense of complexity and depth.
Initial Thoughts
I have a love-dislike relationship with watches like these. I don’t hate them by any stretch of the imagination, but I often find myself struggling to explain the remarkable concepts behind such complex haute horlogerie timepieces. While H. Moser & Cie. aren’t making my job any easier, they aren’t making theirs any easier either.
The Endeavour Minute Repeater Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Cosmic Rain is the culmination of the independent brand’s finest work. Not only do they push their limits by creating a masterpiece of microengineering, but they do so while flexing their artistic muscles through a relatively small yet enormously impactful detail like the 2 o’clock sub-dial. A double spectacle of sound and sight, this new watch shows just how seriously H. Moser & Cie. takes the fine arts and sciences that underpin haute horlogerie watchmaking, even if it doesn’t take itself quite so seriously.
