TAG Heuer brings Indy 500 spirit to the Formula 1 Solargraph with a colourful, wearable, and motorsport-ready limited edition!
When it comes to the world of motorsports, some races are remembered not just for who wins but also for the speed and spectacle they create year after year. First held in 1911, the Indy 500 has grown into one of the most famous motorsporting events in the world, bringing together speed, endurance, danger, and tradition in a single 500-mile race. With TAG Heuer’s identity long being tied to the world of motorsport, the connection to the Indy 500 only feels natural.

TAG Heuer first joined the Indy 500 story in 2004, becoming the Official Timekeeper and Scorer of the Indianapolis 500 and the Indy Racing League. While the maison has been heavily involved in the world of Formula 1 and Grand Prix racing, the Indianapolis 500 represents a different side to their motorsporting story. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious races in the world, held at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Indy 500 sets the perfect stage to reinforce TAG Heuer’s commitment to its long-standing role in measuring racing at the very highest level.
To celebrate the 110th edition of the Indianapolis 500 in 2026, TAG Heuer has introduced a special version of the famed Formula 1 Solargraph series. Limited to 1,110 pieces, the Formula 1 Solargraph x Indy 500 Limited Edition takes the modern Formula 1 Solargraph platform and gives it a unique identity that is tied to the Indy 500. Featuring design details that reference this iconic race, the Formula 1 Solargraph x Indy 500 Limited Edition is practical, modern, and keeps the racing spirit front and centre for all the motorsporting enthusiasts.
Sandblasted Steel With Racing Intent
The case of the Formula 1 Solargraph x Indy 500 Limited Edition remains the same as per the other current Formula 1 Solargraph models, being crafted from steel with a sand-blasted finish to give it that more “industrial” aesthetic. While the 38mm diameter is kept intact, this limited edition model has a slightly thicker profile at just 10.2mm, compared to the Formula 1 Solargraph collection’s overall 9.9mm profile. Honestly, it’s a negligible difference, one that shouldn’t affect the wearability, as with a 38mm case and lug-to-lug distance of 42mm, it will still sit on the wrist beautifully.
One of the standout elements of the case design in the Formula 1 Solargraph collection is the TH-Polylight bezel, which in this case has been finished in black, contrasting nicely against the sandblasted surfaces of the case. I love the use of light brown colour for the 60-minute bezel markings, giving the case just the right amount of playful character. The use of brown is also a reference to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s famous “Yard of Bricks”.
A Dial With Brickyard Character
The dial of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph x Indy 500 Limited Edition is where the references to the iconic Indy 500 become more direct. Firstly, we get a black opaline dial with a matte-like finish, being the perfect backdrop to allow the dial’s elements to stand out beautifully. The light brown colour, which, as mentioned earlier, is a reference to the “Yard of Bricks,” is once again shown on the outer flange of the dial on the 60-minute scale.
The large hour indices are another nice touch, with the TAG Heuer shield used for the 6, 9, and 12 o’clock markers. It gives the dial a more distinctive identity while also tying back to the broader Formula 1 collection design language. The indices and hands are also filled with a generous amount of Super-LumiNova, giving excellent night-time visibility. TAG Heuer has also added touches of red through the central seconds hand and the Formula 1 logo at 12 o’clock, giving the dial that little bit of racing energy without overwhelming the overall design.
I also love the integration of the date window, which I think TAG Heuer has executed brilliantly here. By removing the 3 o’clock marker, it creates a much more balanced design, and with both the date window and date wheel being white (with black borders), it complements the opposite 9 o’clock TAG Heuer “shield” hour marker nicely.
What makes this model unique and specifically an Indy 500 edition, however, is not just the use of light brown colour for the bezel markings and minute track on the dial, but also the Indy 500 logo at 6 o’clock. The logo is beautifully portrayed through colour and stands out nicely against the black background. Rather than relying on overly obvious racing details, TAG Heuer has kept the references restrained, yet well thought out. It allows the watch to feel like a Formula 1 edition first, with the Indy 500 identity built into it after.
No Pit Stops Needed
Powering this Formula 1 Solargraph x Indy 500 Limited Edition is TAG Heuer’s Calibre TH50-00 Solargraph movement, giving the watch a strong sense of everyday practicality. As a movement that gets its energy from light, there is no need for regular battery changes, with TAG Heuer stating that “with the movement being designed for durability, the movement offers a battery lifespan of up to 15 years, reducing maintenance while ensuring stable precision and dependable performance.”
The Calibre TH50-00 converts both natural and artificial light into energy, which means that wearing the watch throughout the day, whether you are indoors or outside, will continuously charge the timepiece. A full charge can deliver up to 10 months of autonomy, and just a brief exposure to light will power the timepiece for a full day. This certainly keeps the watch easy to wear, low-maintenance, and ready to go, and fits perfectly within the performance-focused character that has always defined TAG Heuer’s motorsport-inspired collections.
Initial Thoughts
Personally, I love the execution of this latest Formula 1 Solargraph x Indy 500 Limited Edition. It’s a simple execution on an already thriving platform, one that references the iconic race in a meaningful and well-thought-out manner. There might only be a few details that show the link back to the Indy 500, but it is in this simplicity that TAG Heuer has created a wearable and colourful timepiece. It also showcases two important sides of TAG Heuer: motorsport heritage and everyday practicality. The Formula 1 collection has always carried a more youthful, sporty, and accessible energy within TAG Heuer’s catalogue, and this Indy 500 edition builds on that foundation nicely.
At 38mm, the case size is compact enough for daily wear, while the Solargraph movement adds a practical, low-maintenance edge that suits the Formula 1 collection perfectly. The Indy 500 theme then gives the watch a nice collector-focused story, especially with it being limited to 1,110 pieces. However, this doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s still a clean, sporty, and easy-to-enjoy TAG Heuer timepiece. For fans of the Indy 500 or those who appreciate motorsports in general, this is certainly a meaningful and approachable edition within the Formula 1 lineup!
