In a Panerai First, the Florentine brand packages two Radiomirs with a unique experience exploring the heart of Panerai!

Panerai is a brand with significant historical relevance in the world of watches. Originally creating marine instruments for the Italian military and navy before moving into watches, the Florence-based brand has a somewhat checkered history—especially regarding its origins and subsequent rise to fame in the mid-1990s. If you haven’t read the Perezcope article on its association with Sylvester Stallone, do yourself a favour—it’s an interesting read!

Regardless of modern history and stories, Panerai remains an iconic brand with a staunch cult following. I count myself among the Paneristi worldwide as a proud owner of a PAM 312, which I purchased from the flagship boutique in Florence back in 2014 (read about it here)—the very same boutique in Piazza San Giovanni where this experience begins.

The Panerai Boutique in the Piazza San Giovanni, Florence, Italy

Since 2019, Panerai has collaborated with its ambassadors and other organisations to deliver money-can’t-buy experiences tied to select watch purchases via the Panerai Experience program. Past offerings include trekking the Arctic with French explorer and longtime ambassador Mike Horn, sailing with the Luna Rossa America’s Cup Team, or training with Italian Special Forces. All are accessible only to buyers of specific paired pieces.

For this new Panerai Experience, the brand pairs two Radiomir models in the Viaggio Nel Tempo Experience Set: one in patented Bronze with a California dial, the other in Platinumtech™ with an openworked, hand-decorated movement.

PAM 1729 Bronzo

The first piece is a 47mm Radiomir Bronze with a vintage-style California dial—a collector favourite for blending Arabic and Roman numerals.

A Bronze beauty with the new PAM 1729 Radiomir Bronzo

Its dark black dial contrasts with beige Super-LumiNova numerals, evoking a true vintage patina alongside the bronze case. Blue hands, achieved via controlled oxidation at around 300°C, add deep lustre. Panerai enhances the retro appeal with a Plexiglas crystal instead of sapphire, making it period-correct for a hypothetical 1940s original.

The bronze alloy will patina and age with wear, becoming unique to each owner.

Inside beats the manual-wind P.3000 calibre from Panerai’s Neuchâtel Manufacture, delivering the brand’s standard 3-day power reserve. The sapphire caseback reveals a minimalist aesthetic inspired by historic models, and shows off the hand-wound movement nicely.

The P.3000 Calibre with a minimalistic style – brushed bridges with anglage and countersunk chatons show off the rubies.

PAM 1730 Platinumtech

The standout (in my opinion) is the 47mm Radiomir in Platinumtech—Panerai’s proprietary platinum alloy (95% pure) that’s 85% harder than standard platinum due to a unique treatment process. It’s lighter and more durable than pure platinum, yet it weighs 33% more than 18k gold, ensuring a substantial wrist presence.

The Platinumtech Radiomir PAM 1730

Slim wire lugs and a Plexiglas crystal amplify the vintage look, joined by a first-for-the-line circular-brushed black dial (distinct from Panerai’s usual matte, textured, or sunburst finishes). The black “Radiomir Panerai” inscription appears only at certain angles.

With 33% more weight than gold, the platinum case will feel hefty on the wrist.

Blue-fired hands pop in sunlight but blend in low light, while the sandwich dial’s full Super-LumiNova layer makes markers at 3, 6, 9, and 12 glow vividly. From experience, Panerai’s green lume endures extremely well – my 12-year-old PAM 312 remains legible at 4 a.m. after sitting unworn and inside for days.

A circular brushed dial, tone-on-tone logo and the blue fired hands contrast the polished platinum case

As much as the dial side is nice, the movement in the PAM 1730 is really where this piece shines. Inside is the hand-wound P.3001/10 calibre – skeletonised to show the full movement works. The top edges are all brushed and bevelled, holding the gears in place and the middle bridge has been decorated with perlage to bring the movement to life. It also features a gold coloured power reserve indicator that assists in letting the wearer know how much of the 3 days worth of pwoer is left in the tank.

A skeletonised movement is rare in a Panerai, and the P3001/10 feels like you are looking into a maritime instrument, especially with the design of the power reserve indicator.

The Experience

As previously mentioned, this set is part of the new Experience from Panerai. So, what do you get when purchasing this set? A curated Italian experience retracing some of the steps of Panerai and its history. Scheduled from September 15th to 18th, 2026, and starting at the boutique in Florence, in the Piazza San Giovanni – Panerai’s historical home, guests will be treated to a guided tour through Panerai’s historical exhibition to learn more about the brand.

An experience is always better with the watch in question on the wrist.

The itinerary then leads participants to retrace the footsteps of the legendary Italian frogmen, for whom Panerai designed and made dive watches – exploring their original meeting grounds, training arenas, and diving points at the mouth of the Serchio River. The expedition culminates with a visit to the COMSUBIN base in Porto Venere, followed by a yacht tour along the Ligurian coastline.

The Italian frogmen were one of the first users of Panerai Radiomir dive watches, and participants will get to learn and experience this history as part of the latest Panerai Experience

All this is tied to Panerai’s maritime and naval heritage and will allow each participant to be fully immersed in the brand. All the while taking in amazing scenery and eating some very nice Italian food, I’m sure!

Initial Thoughts

As someone who’s visited the Panerai Ologeria in Florence, having bought my PAM 312 there, I know the magic of a brand’s birthplace. For the 30 Viaggio Nel Tempo buyers, it’ll be unforgettable. Experiences like this forge deeper connections than steel and sapphire alone – something watch brands are now starting to realise.

The Bronzo delivers iconic patina (Submersible-style, but Radiomir-appropriate) and a collectible California dial. The Platinumtech PAM 1730 stands out with rare platinum construction and skeletonised movement—echoing high-end pieces like the Radiomir Minute Repeater Tourbillon GMT. At 47mm, it’s not for small wrists, but Radiomirs wear slimmer than the spec suggests (see my 45mm Radiomir Tre Giorni review).

Overall, this set is one for the collectors, the hardcore Paneristi among us. At A$234,000 (subject to monthly changes due to exchange rates for travel and tours), it is not a cheap set of watches, but you do get two limited, unique pieces plus a priceless Italian immersion. Worth every cent for true Paneristi!
