Hublot’s Coal Blue editions offer a more refined take on the brand’s bold design language. Subtle, modern, and still unmistakably Hublot, they bring a fresh perspective to the Big Bang and Spirit of Big Bang collections!

Hublot, as you may be aware, is not a brand that is short on bold colours. Over the past few years, I’ve had many chances to try on various models from the brand’s signature Big Bang and Spirit of Big Bang collections, with colours that can certainly take your breath away. Just recently, when we were down in Sydney for LVMH Watch Week, we visited the Hublot boutique, and I was fortunate enough to see not one but three yellow ceramic Big Bang and Spirit of Big Bang models. Being a big fan of this colour in recent times, I was very happy that I had the chance to see this bold, bright, happy colour in the flesh once again.

While bold colours are designed to make the timepiece stand out, Hublot occasionally releases a colour that is a little more understated, at least by their own standards. Unveiled during LVMH Watch Week 2026, the new Coal Blue editions for both the Big Bang Original and Spirit of Big Bang are fantastic new additions to both collections, presenting what feels like a more mature and refined take on Hublot’s usual colour play. Being a big fan of the colour blue, these new releases are certainly up my alley!

Hublot Big Bang Original Unico & Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Coal Blue

What’s interesting with these new additions is that the choice of using this Coal Blue colour wasn’t just simply applied for the sake of novelty. Hublot has developed the colour specifically for these four new references, using it across the dials and straps to create a cohesive aesthetic.

The four new references presented include the Big Bang Unico Titanium Coal Blue, the Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Coal Blue, and their respective diamond versions, with the Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds, and lastly the Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue Diamonds. These new Coal Blue additions offer a fresh new perspective, an alternative look for those that want something a little different from the brighter, more aggressive colourways the brand is known for.

Big Bang Original Unico Titanium Coal Blue

Hublot is phasing out the Big Bang collection in place of the new Big Bang Original Unico. As part of the brand’s 20th anniversary celebrations of the Big Bang collection, the brand introduced special editions of the core models, featuring slight tweaks to the proportions. This year, Hublot has reintroduced these special editions as the Big Bang Original Unico, a now core collection of the brand.

With this new collection comes a new case size, which measures 43mm x 13.20mm, a slightly slimmer version that has been designed to fit better on the wrist overall. For these Coal Blue editions. The Big Bang Original Unico is presented in titanium material, with a brushed finish on the surface of the bezel, while the case surface features a satin-brushed finish, with the sides and chamfered edges being polished. A detail that I love about the case design is the bezel edge and chronograph pushers, which have been created to mimic the carbon-fiber-inspired geometric weave of the dial and rubber strap.

The dial of the new Big Bang Original Unico models retains the signature 60-minute large sub-dial at 3 o’clock and the smaller constant seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock. The Coal Blue colour really pops on this dial, which is elevated even further by the carbon-fiber-inspired geometric pattern. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan of this pattern on the dial initially, but after seeing it on this shade of blue, it’s starting to win me over. What’s more impressive is that when you rotate the dial under light, this geometric pattern really comes to life!

Like the rest of the Big Bang Original Unico models, this Coal Blue edition also comes with the HUB1280 Unico movement, which is Hublot’s in-house self-winding flyback chronograph movement with column wheel. The HUB1280 Unico calibre operates at a high-frequency of 4Hz (28,800 VpH), while offering a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. Turning the watch over, you are treated to an open view of the movement, with the new feature being Hublot’s standard Unico rotor, skeletonised with the Hublot logo.

Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds

The ladies’ Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds is presented in a 33mm x 10.5mm case size, with the bezel being adorned with 36 diamonds (0.76 ct). The case features satin-finished and polished surfaces to present a timepiece of refined elegance. Unlike the Big Bang Original Unico Titanium Coal Blue, this model features a straight-lined rubber strap that adds a touch of sportiness to the elegant aesthetic.

The dial replaces the carbon-fibre inspired geometric pattern for a more traditional sunburst effect, which plays perfectly into the hand of the Coal Blue colour, as it reflects light beautifully. The dial shifts from lighter to darker tones of the Coal Blue shade as you rotate the watch under light, providing the perfect visual touch to the overall design. Another detail I love about the dial is its perfect integration of the date window. Removing the 3 o’clock indices to make way for the window, which also has a white date wheel, allows it to seamlessly fit into the dial, retaining the balanced aesthetic.

The movement inside the Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds is the HUB1120 self-winding movement. Operating at a high-frequency of 4Hz, the movement also gives out a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The movement is fitted with a Hublot-designed tungsten oscillating weight with polished and microblasted finishes, while a Swiss lever escapement ensures stable and consistent timekeeping.

Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Coal Blue

One of my favourite collections from Hublot is the Spirit of Big Bang. The tonneau-shaped case gives the watch a unique presence on the wrist, which, when combined with Hublot’s bold colours and aesthetics, creates a timepiece that feels instantly recognisable and confidently different.

This Spirit of Big Bang is presented in a 42mm x 14.10mm case size in titanium material. The case features a mixture of satin-brushed surfaces alongside polished finishing. The surface of the bezel comes with satin-brushed finishing, along with a matte microblasted finish, while the sides of the case and bezel have a polished finish to give the case a well-refined and luxurious aesthetic.

The dial features a tri-counter layout displaying the chronograph indications, with large indices that are a mixture of Arabic numerals and slanted-rectangular, along with the hour and minute hands being filled with a generous amount of white SuperLumi-Nova, allowing these elements to stand out beautifully against the Coal Blue background. This stamped satin-finished Coal Blue “Carbon Effect” features the same aesthetic elegance as the Big Bang Original Unico Titanium Coal Blue.

Powering the Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Coal Blue is the HUB4700 self-winding skeleton chronograph movement. This HUB4700 movement is based on Zenith’s legendary El Primero chronograph calibre, hence the high-performance technicality of the movement. Out of all the new Coal Blue editions, this Spirit of Big Bang features the highest frequency at 5Hz (36,000 VpH), ensuring a much higher rate of accuracy and precision.

Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue Diamonds

The Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue Diamonds takes on the same aesthetic design as the Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds, however, with the addition of the tonneau case that gives the watch a more prominent look on the wrist. Targeted towards the ladies, this watch features a smaller case size compared to the Titanium Coal Blue above, measuring in at 32mm x 11.10mm thick. The case has both a satin-brushed finish and a polished finish, giving the look of elegance, which is further elevated through the addition of 44 diamonds (0.7 ct) on the bezel.

Unlike the Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds, the dial features baton-style indices that I think personally give more visibility to the sunburst Coal Blue dial. This dial truly is stunning, and is one that must be seen in person to do it proper justice. The way the Coal Blue shifts tones depending on the lighting angle, combined with the sparkle of the surrounding diamonds, gives the watch an eye-catching presence on the wrist.

Sitting inside the Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue Diamonds is the HUB1120 self-winding movement. With a date complication at 6 o’clock that provides a perfectly balanced dial aesthetic, the movement provides overall good performance, operating at 4Hz (28,800 VpH) and offering 40 hours of power reserve.

Initial Thoughts

Hublot isn’t exactly a brand that is shy when it comes to colour. Over the years, the brand has built a reputation for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, with timepieces that are usually accompanied by bold, attention-grabbing colours. Models from both the Big Bang and Spirit of Big Bang collections have showcased this to the best extent, with vibrant colours being thrown on sapphire timepieces and ceramic models, but also on the dials to make eye-catching wrist candy.

That’s why these new Coal Blue editions stood out to me so well. Before I had a chance to see them in person, the press images already gave an idea of the colour, which feels more refined and nuanced than Hublot’s usual palette. Seeing them in person, however, not only confirmed this first impression, but it was also more visually stunning thanks to the shifts in texture and tones from both the carbon-fiber-inspired geometric weave and the sunburst finish.

What really makes these Coal Blue editions work, though, is that the colour doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Developed specifically for these four new references, Coal Blue is used consistently across dials, straps, and case details to create a cohesive and well-balanced look. Whether in titanium or diamond-set form, across the Big Bang Original Unico, Spirit of Big Bang, or their One Click and smaller tonneau counterparts, the colour brings a fresh perspective to familiar designs. These four new additions are perfect for collectors who appreciate bold design but want something a little more understated this time around!
