Like Christmas lights glimmering in the snow, the new True Square Open Heart models reflect warmth, wonder, and Swiss precision in perfect harmony. A timepiece that celebrates the beauty of the season with every sparkle.

Rado’s True Square collection has stood as the brand’s most distinctive modern design, a seamless fusion of geometry, comfort, and technology. The True Square collection has been built with Rado’s pioneering expertise in the use of high-tech ceramic material, showcasing that the collection is not just a bold design but also features exceptional durability, lightness, and comfort on the wrist. This is one of the perfect examples of Rado’s ongoing pursuit to reimagine the square watch for the modern wearer.

Over the years, the Rado True Square has evolved into a symbol of the brand’s innovative spirit. One that defines what a modern square watch can be through contemporary proportions and refined craftsmanship. This is not the first time the True Square collection has featured an openheart design. In fact, the first time Rado introduced the True Square Openheart back in 2022, it marked a bold new step for the brand, bringing together a monobloc ceramic case with a partially skeletonised dial. The True Square Openheart came in various case colours, with one of the highlights being the turquoise ceramic case, a colour that is rare for ceramic material.

This year, this signature design takes a new and festive form with the introduction of two new True Square Open Heart Sparkling models. These two new models embody Rado’s technical precision and design artistry, enhanced with shimmering diamonds and polished ceramic cases that capture the festive season’s spirit of light.

Case Design

Rado is offering two different high-tech ceramic case materials for this mini collection, with the first being the polished white high-tech ceramic with a titanium case back (Ref. R27073722), and the second being a polished plasma high-tech ceramic with a titanium case back (Ref. R27083722). The two colours offered highlight different aspects of the timepiece, with the polished white high-tech ceramic case drawing more attention to the overall timepiece, adding to the glamour and glitz of the shimmering dial. The plasma high-tech ceramic case, on the other hand, is a bit more subtle, and allows the dial to take the spotlight, and reveal its intricate textures and play of light. The shimmering diamonds will also stand out more against the darkened plasma case, creating a refined contrast that gives this version a more understated yet sophisticated presence on the wrist.

Dial Design

These two timepieces are all about the play of light. Created for the Christmas festive season in just a few short weeks, the skeletonised architecture of the dial, which also acts as the hour indices and the adjoining minute track, features diamonds that glisten beautifully, evoking images of icy winters. The sparkling diamonds feature a powder-like decoration produced through a unique electroforming process, a technique that creates a uniform, diamond-dust effect across the indices. This subtle texture enhances the way light dances over the rhodium-coloured surface, giving the watch an almost ethereal glow. The touch of colour from the jewels, the golden outlines of the skeletonised frame of the dial, the gold gear train and balance wheel, to the rose gold or yellow gold hands (depending on model), create a beautiful display that reminds us of the warmth of Christmas lights shimmering through gentle snowfall.

Movement

Powering the two Rado True Square Open Heart Sparkling editions is the same Calibre R734 movement. Visible through the skeletonised dial is the gear train and balance wheel, showcasing the beating heart of the movement. Turn the watch over, and you are treated to delicate circular-grained decoration and a Côtes de Genève-finishing, adding a layer of aesthetic finishing to the overall design. Beyond its appearance, the Calibre R734 movement offers an impressive 80-hour power reserve and features an antimagnetic Nivachron™ hairspring for superior reliability in everyday conditions.

Initial Thoughts

As Rado states, “it’s all about light in this merry season, the way it falls on diamonds, dials, and high-tech ceramic.” This latest duo of True Square Open Heart Sparkling sums up this statement beautifully, a balance of Swiss precision and radiant design that celebrates both innovation and emotion. The way Rado has captured the essence of “snow” with the uniform diamond-powder effect on the dial is nothing short of captivating. It gives the True Square Open Heart Sparkling a soft, frosted glow that feels both luxurious and serene, like sunlight reflecting off freshly fallen snow. Add to this the various gold tones of the dial, and what we get is warmth and radiance, evoking the image of Christmas lights glimmering gently in the snow.

Whether you are drawn to the more elegant and proud polished white ceramic or the quiet sophistication of the plasma model, each timepiece is a reflection of Rado’s mastery of materials and their ability to turn light into an element of design. Perfect for the festive season, these latest True Square Open Heart Sparkling models remind us what it’s truly about: celebration, connection, and moments that shine as brightly as the watch itself.
