At Geneva Watch Days 2025, Bvlgari pulled back the curtain on two striking new entries to its Aluminium collection — this time clad in bronze.
Bronze is no stranger to Bvlgari. The brand first toyed with the alloy in the Bvlgari Bvlgari collection, a fitting tribute given Gerald Genta’s original inspiration from Roman coinage. For decades, the maison has celebrated that legacy through its Monete jewellery pieces, which set authentic ancient coins into precious metal frames. In that context, bronze isn’t just another case material — it’s a direct link to history, a metal once forged into the shields and breastplates of ancient Greek hoplites and Roman legionaries.
Now, that sense of antiquity meets modern sportiness. By introducing bronze into the Aluminium line, Bvlgari sharpens the athletic silhouette that once defined the Diagono. It’s a lineage worth remembering: born as the Bvlgari Bvlgari Sport, reborn in the 1990s as the Diagono, and revived again in 2020 under the minimalist banner of “Aluminium.” Limiting the collection to a single lightweight alloy was always a bold statement — but opening the door to bronze feels like the next chapter. For this latest Bronzo launch, Bvlgari has introduced two models: a 40 mm GMT and a 41 mm Chronograph.
The 40 mm GMT uses an independently adjustable 24-hour hand, making it a practical option for tracking a second time zone. Its layout remains consistent with the other Aluminium GMT models, keeping the design language uniform across the collection. The circular counterweight on the seconds hand is a signature detail.
The 41 mm Chronograph takes a slightly different direction. Drawing on the Gran Turismo editions from 2023, it introduces a tachymeter scale in a more restrained style — a cleaner execution that also distinguishes it from the standard Aluminium chronographs, which feature no tachymeter. Furthermore, the chronograph counter hands are treated with Super-LumiNova, an uncommon but practical detail.
The Bronzo models arrive in sandblasted bronze cases, giving each watch a distinctive texture and a warm, evolving patina over time. The double-logo bezel returns in black matte rubber, a bold contrast that balances sportiness with elegance.
Bvlgari blends the epic with the everyday: the lugs, for example, take their cues from something as humble as door hinges, rather than grand Roman architecture. In terms of wearability, the GMT measures just under 9.7 mm in height, while the Chronograph comes in at 12.35 mm. Crowns, pushers, and case backs are finished in black DLC, adding a contemporary touch.
The Bronzo models feature matte black dials paired with colour-matched date wheels for a seamless look. Sandblasted bronze hands tie the dial to the case, reinforcing the ancient-modern theme. On the GMT, the 24-hour display is split between grey and black for easy day-night reading. White indexes and text, combined with generous Super-LumiNova, ensure excellent visibility in all light conditions.
The articulating, hinged rubber straps mirror the bezel’s black matte finish, with bronze accents at each articulation point. More than just a strap, it feels like a seamless extension of the case — an integrated bracelet that flows naturally across thewrist. The sandblasted bronze pin buckle completes the cohesive design.
Initial Thoughts
Bronze watches — or even the term Bronzo — are nothing new in 2025, with Panerai as the obvious trailblazer. However, when the Italians get involved, it just feels so much more special. Unlike most bronze watches on the market, Bvlgari’s Bronzo avoids faux patina or retro vintage cues. Instead, it carries a sense of the ancient, echoing Roman coins and armour while maintaining a distinctly modern design. Bold and purposeful, it will appeal to clients wanting a watch that blends heritage with contemporary sportiness.
