A floating tourbillon under a starry aventurine sky, honouring 250 years of Breguet mastery. The Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 isn’t just a watch, it’s a legacy on your wrist.
On June 26th 2025, exactly 224 years after Abraham-Louis Breguet secured the patent for his revolutionary tourbillon mechanism, the luxury watchmaker commemorates this special milestone with the release of the Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255. This timepiece is limited to just 50 models, and will mark the fourth chapter in Breguet’s 250 year celebrations this year, in which they have already released several commemorative timepieces!
This isn’t just any tourbillon timepiece however. It is the first watch from Breguet to feature a flying tourbillon complication. The flying tourbillon appears to float within the dial, which is further enhanced by the “mysterious ” construction of the complication, which is concealed by the mechanical connections. For Breguet’s Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255, this illusion of the “floating” tourbillon is created through the use of sapphire components and hidden gearing, which ultimately creates a mesmerizing visual effect.
This timepiece, celebrating two special events, features details that are quite breathtaking and truly noteworthy of a commemarative watch. One aspect that stands out for me, besides the mesmerising flying tourbillon, is the beautiful aventurine dial. Breguet states “given that each aventurine enamel dial is hand-crafted no two will ever be same, as such, all 50 examples of the Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 are essentially unique pieces.”
What makes this timepiece standout from the other 250th anniversary releases is how it seamlessly bridges Breguet’s 250-year heritage with contemporary innovation. Featuring the first ever flying tourbillon from the brand, a Grand Feu aventurine enamel dial evoking a sturnning night sky and then combined with the 18K Breguet gold case, the Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 is not just a watch, but a statement of Breguet’s enduring dedication to horological art and technical mastery.
Case Design
The Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 comes in a 38mm case in Breguet’s latest material innovation: 18K Breguet gold. 18K Breguet gold is made of 75% gold, with the remaining 25% consisting of silver, copper, and palladium. This specific mixture gives 18k Breguet gold an enhanced appearance with a warmer hue while also adding in resistance to discolouration. The case also comes with Breguet’s signature fluted caseband and welded lugs. The case design beautifully brings together traditional aesthetics with modern craftsmanship. With the timepiece just being 10.2mm thick, it also offers excellet wearability, with the case measurements redefined to exceed modern standards of comfort while maintaining the elegant proportions collectors expect from a Breguet.
Dial Design
This timepiece features many firsts for Breguet. From the flying tourbillon complication to now for the first time in Breguet’s history, chosen to create a dial with aventurine enamel. An aventurine dial was specifically chosen as it beautifully depicts a starry night sky with the way the deep blue material is punctuated with sparkling inclusions, forming the perfect tribute to astronomy. Breguet’s signature design of having an off-centre hour and minute sub-dial features Breguet Arabic numerals and hollowed “apple”shaped hands, done in the beautiful 18k Breguet gold.
The main highlight of the dial, the flying tourbillon, is shown at the 6 o’clock position. The deep blue aventurine dial perfectly complements the 18k Breguet gold shown on the dial elements and the case, offering not only a beautiful contrast between these elements, but also make the timepiece a visual masterpiece. The flying tourbillon makes takes this elegant timepiece and it into a technical marvel. The floating appearance of the tourbillon creates a mesmerising spectacle with every glance, reminding the wearer of Breguet’s dedication to blending art, precision, and innovation in its watchmaking.
Movement
The movement inside the Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 is Breguet’s manual-winding Calibre 187M1. The movement is made of up 183 components and offers a decent 50 hour power reserve. As it is a manual would calibre, the accuracy is reduced to 2.5hz (18,800 Vph) prioritising stability and traditional watchmaking finesse over high-beat operation.
The timepiece comes with an open caseback which is a highlight of its own. Breguet has given the Calibre 187M1 beautiful finishing which includes Quai de l’Horloge guilloché, Côtes de Genève, anglage, and perlage techniques. These details not only enhance the visual appeal of the movement, but also showcase the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into every Breguet creation.
Initial Thoughts
The Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 celebrates Breguets 250th anniversary while also commerating the 224 years since Abraham Louis-Breguet introudced the tourbillon complication to the world of watchmaking. And honestly, what a way to do it. If you can’t tell already, I’m a huge Breguet fan, as they represent some of the best craftsmanship and traditional watchmaking skills on the market.
By seamlessly integrating historical elements with groundbreaking innovations, this limited-edition release not only honors the brand’s storied past but also creates a path for the future. For me, this is their best 250th anniversary release to date, and that is saying something since creations like Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035 was truly special. But the way Breguet have bought together 18k Breguet gold with new additions like the aventurine dial and flying tourbillon, creates a visual masterpiece that I, personally have a hard to not looking away from! The Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 is a reminder of why Breguet remains one of the true pillars of haute horlogerie, blending technical innovation with timeless elegance in a way that few others can.
