Perrelet’s latest Turbine spins us into the world of Manga Hentai, and with every flick of the wrist, reveals a hot and heavy scene!
Perrelet isn’t new to the world of eccentric watchmaking. In fact, they’ve been doing things differently since 1777, when founder Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the automatic winding mechanism. But while much of Swiss horology is about tradition and restraint, Perrelet has often chosen provocation over predictability. Their Turbine series, launched in 2009, was already a masterstroke of design meets kinetics. Since then, the brand has been doubling down on the Turbine collection and, as a result, is what Perrelet is now best known for.
Then in 2022, the brand had its first foray into the world of erotic watches – a genre that is a niche within a niche, let’s say. Erotic watches have existed since the 18th century, often relegated to hidden casebacks or minute automata. What Perrelet has done is flip that history on its head, literally, by placing the art front and centre, and then covering it up with movement. The turbine becomes a veil, only lifted through motion, making the viewing an act of participation. It’s this playful interaction that turns the Perrelet Turbine Erotic from novelty into narrative.
At first glance, it’s a serious-looking watch: 41mm of black DLC grade 2 titanium, 12 bold turbine blades covering the dial and a matching black rubber strap. But like all good stories, the real interest lies beneath the surface. With a small flick of the wrist, the 12 turbine blades begin to spin, revealing an artfully hidden hentai-inspired illustration tucked discreetly beneath. It’s cheeky. It’s controversial. And it’s absolutely deliberate.
The new Perrelet Turbine Erotic collection consists of four models, each limited to 99 pieces. While the watches in essence are the same, what differentiates them is the dial. Perrelet has discreetly placed four different Hentai scenes under the turbine blades. Each scene is as raunchy as the last, and for collectors of Perrelet, Hentai, Manga, or just Erotic watches, then these will be a surefire hit. For those who are on the less risque side, then they may not be for you, but there are plenty of other turbine models out there that are less X-rated.
Beneath the cheeky dial beats the in-house automatic P-331-MH calibre, developed with Soprod (Perrelet’s in-house movement manufacture). It offers a 42-hour power reserve and is COSC, so its accuracy is ensured. Visible via the display caseback, it is a nicely decorated movement, especially at the price point, with a skeleton style rotor, perlage on the bridges and solarisation on the wheels.
Initial Thoughts
Whether you see it as art, humour, rebellion, or all three, there’s no denying: this is one timepiece that demands a second glance literally and figuratively. The turbine blades on the dial reveal just enough to pique your interest, but not enough that you will get into hot water from onlookers and passersby. It’s a small secret that only you, and anyone you let see the spinning dila, know.
The Turbine Erotic isn’t for everyone, and it’s not trying to be. But that’s what makes it brilliant. It’s a watch that challenges the formality of fine watchmaking while paying homage to its more taboo traditions. It takes confidence, not just from the wearer, but from the brand, to produce something this unapologetically bold. In a world of endless minimalism and safe choices, this Perrelet is a reminder that watches can still surprise us.
