Cartier Watch Spotting At The 96TH Annual Academy Awards

The 96th Annual Academy Awards, also known as the 2024 Oscars, was held two nights ago on March 10th at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood. As we all know, the Oscars is an awards night, given for artistic and technical excellence through several categories for the film industry. This 96th Academy Awards looks at the films and screenplays produced throughout 2023.

Famous American TV host Jimmy Kimmel hosted the awards once again, in what was a hilarious introduction to the prestigious ceremony in a year that produced some memorable films and screenplays. Throughout the ceremony, there were a host of presenters, including Bad Bunny (rapper and record producer) and American actor Ke Huy Quan.

Oppenheimer was the show’s star, with the film taking out seven awards out of thirteen nominations, including Best Picture. The Oscars is arguably Hollywood’s biggest night, with almost every A-list celebrity attending the event. And, with the biggest celebrity event of the year, comes the red carpet fashion, or in our case, Celebrity Watch Spotting!

The celebrities didn’t hold back when it came to red-carpet fashion. They dressed in classy, high-luxury brands, including the timepieces on their wrists. In this article, we will focus on the attendees who wore Cartier watches to the 96th Annual Academy Awards.

Bad Bunny (Presenter) – Cartier Collection Tank Cintrée skeleton wristwatch

The Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and record producer gained fame for his contributions to Latin and Reggaeton music. He is the first non-English-language act to be Spotify’s most-streamed artist of the year. He has the second-biggest streaming year of any artist in Spotify history, generating over 18.5 billion streams in 2022.

Cartier Santos-Dumont Skeleton

On his wrist during his presentation at the 2024 Oscars was the Tank CINTRÉE Watch. Released in 2018, this hand-wound timepiece comes with a platinum case, a beaded crown set with a sapphire cabochon and blued-steel sword-shaped hands. What makes this timepiece stand out is its rectangular-shaped case, with the simplistic skeletonised dial laying inside.

Nomination: Best Documentary Short Film (As an executive producer) – The Barber of Little Rock

Dwyane Wade is a former professional basketball player who is regarded as one of the greatest shooting guards in NBA history. His main club was the Miami Heat, where he spent most of his career. Through Miami Heat, Wade won three NBA Championships (2006, 2012, and 2013). Wade is also a 13-time NBA All-Star and has earned himself numerous accolades throughout his career.

Cartier Santos-Dumont Skeleton

Dwyane Wade’s red carpet entrance to the 2024 Oscars showed him wearing a Cartier Tank Must timepiece. The Tank Must is an extra-large model in Cartier’s catalogue and features an automatic winding movement (calibre 1847 MC). As the name suggests, the Tank Must features the iconic design of the Tank model, including the Roman numerals, blued-steel hands and the beaded crown. The reason why this model is considered “extra-large” is because it measures 41mm in height, while the large model sits around 35mm and medium size around 31mm.

Nominations: Attending with Past Lives

Teo Yoo is a German-born South Korean actor. One of his more prominent roles when he was starting out was as Viktor Tsoi in the musical film Leto (2018). Teo won the Best New Actor award in 2021 for his role in Blue Dragon Film. More recently, Teo starred in the romantic drama film Past Lives, in which he gained a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Teo Yoo wore many Cartier pieces in his attire for the Oscars, from cufflinks and rings to the Pasha de Cartier watch. The Pasha de Cartier is a two-tone timepiece, composed of 18k yellow gold and steel. Measuring 41mm in diameter, the steel case has a yellow gold 750/1000 bezel and a silvered flinqué dial with elegantly designed blued-steel diamond-shaped hands. Matching the mix of metals on the case is the bracelet, with its outer links in steel and central links in yellow gold 750/1000.

Ke Huy Quan is an Academy Award-winning Chinese-American actor who rose to fame as a child actor playing the lead role in The Goonies (1985). Alongside Harrison Ford, Ke Huy Quan starred in Steven Spielberg’s box office hit Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). After this, he then took a 19-year break from acting, from which he returned to the industry, appearing alongside Michelle Yeoh in A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), for which he was the recipient of the Oscar, Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, and SAG awards for Best Supporting Actor.

Ke Huy Quan was a presenter for the 2024 Oscars, during which he presented Robert Downey Jr. with the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Oppenheimer. During the ceremony, Ke Huy Quan was spotted wearing the Santos-Dumont micro-rotor skeleton watch (large model). One of the more standout Cartier timepieces in this list, the Santos-Dumont Skeleton comes in an 18K yellow gold (750/1000) case with blue lacquer, skeletonised dial in the same yellow gold material, with blue-steel sword-shaped hands and the bridges of the skeletonised movement covered in blue lacquer.

Nominations: Best Original Score – Oppenheimer Winner

Ludwig Göransson is a Swedish composer, conductor, songwriter, and record producer. He has collaborated with many different music artists, such as Adele, Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Childish Gambino. These music projects have earned him numerous accolades, such as Grammy Awards. Ludwig has also worked and made significant contributions to the television and film industry. The artist has made scores for projects like Black Panther (2018), for which he was awarded an Academy Award and Grammy Award. His most recent work on the score for Oppenheimer (2023) has earned him his first win at the BAFTA Awards and Golden Globe Awards, alongside a third nomination at the Academy Awards.

Ludwig was spotted wearing Cartier’s Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch. Nominations: Best Original Screenplay – Past Lives

The South Korean-Canadian filmmaker and playwright, Celine Song is also a three-time Golden Globe-nominated director. She made her feature directorial debut with her romantic drama Past Lives (2023), which was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 73rd Annual Berlin International Film Festival. Prior to this, she served on the writing staff for Sony Pictures Television’s action-adventure series The Wheel of Time (2021- 2023) starring Rosamund Pike.

Cartier Baignoire watch

She was present at the 2024 Oscars for her nomination for Best Original Screenplay (Past Lives). Wearing Cartier jewellery, she was also seen with a Cartier Baignoire watch. The Cartier Baignoire’s history stretches all the way back to 1912, with the overall design still being retained. Presented in a white gold 750/1000 case, it is set with multiple rows of diamonds. The crown also comes with a brilliant-cut diamond.

Nominations: Best International Feature Film – The Zone Of Interest

Christian Friedel is a German Actor and Singer, who gained fame and recognition for his performance in The White Ribbon (2009), which received critical acclaim and won the Palme d’Or at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. He is best known internationally as part of the main cast of the Netflix television thriller series Babylon Berlin (2017–present) and as Rudolf Höss in the 2023 drama The Zone of Interest.

Tank Louis Cartier watch

Friedel wore an elegant Tank Louis Cartier watch during the awards night. This minimalist dress watch’s aesthetics are the central talking point. The timepiece is encased in an 18k yellow gold 750/1000 case, which perfectly complements the red lacquer-effect dial. The hands are also yellow gold to match the case, while the alligator-skin strap is finished in a semi-matte burgundy colour. It has a simple yet colourful and elegant look, which, in this case, perfectly matches Christian Friedel’s attire.

The Saudi Arabian film producer Mohammed Al Turki has produced many notable films that have played a vital role in promoting Saudi Arabian cinema on the world stage. Recently, Mohammed Al Turki has been an executive producer on Ferrari (2023). Along with his work in cinema, Al Turki is also recognised for his contributions to philanthropy and social causes and has been involved in initiatives that focus on education and healthcare, reflecting his commitment to making a positive impact beyond the entertainment industry.

Santos de Cartier watch

At the 2024 Oscars, Mohammed Al Turki was dressed fashionably in Cartier rings, a brooch and a Santos de Cartier watch. Another gentleman who loves his skeleton timepieces, the Santos de Cartier, is a hand-wound timepiece (calibre 9611 MC) enclosed in a steel case. The signature design of this timepiece is that the bridges of the movement have been reconstructed to show as the hour indices in Roman numerals for the dial!
